Thanksgiving week was particularly a good time for me. That Wednesday my CHL license came in the mail. It was truly an amazing feeling to gaze upon it after waiting since August. But this is not what this chat is about….How many times do you feel the need to protect yourself in a given week, year, lifetime? Twice in one week I feel is over the top and both situations felt comforted to know my “piece of mind was at my side. First off Monday morning after Thanksgiving, I am driving to a local hotel here in Houston to collect some clients that were in town for business. It was raining, foggy, dark and very early in the morning. 6:00 to be exact. I pulled out onto a very busy highway and misjudged how fast the oncoming car was coming. He was coming very fast and gave me the flashing lights, followed by the wailing horn, then preceded the ever aggressive pass and cut-off manoeuvre right in front of me before he slams on his breaks to let me know he just performed this stunt. That was dangerous on the slippery ugly dark road. Just in front of him was a line of 90 or more cars waiting at the light so performing this daring stunt was a stunt to begin with. I of course settle in behind him as we travelled no more then 80 yards up the road before hitting traffic. After proceeding through the light I am still behind him and this continued for about two miles. Then he turns onto the road that I am turning onto. Then moments later turns into the hotel valet stand that I was going to where my clients were waiting. Next thing I know the guy is out of his car and beating on my truck screaming that I am following him. If that wasn’t enough, his “other half and a half is out of the car telling Lemanja (not sure about spelling) to kick my (you know what) for following them. Here I am, 5 days after receiving the prestigious card that a crazed mad man is beating on my truck because I followed him through heavy traffic. I remembered in class always diffuse the situation, and did my best in the calmest manner possible. He could not comprehend through his bulging twitching eyes that this is where I was going the entire time……Just could not comprehend. So in my best how to win friends and influence people approach, he and his half of a half returned to their car and drove off in a squeal daring me to follow them. Well, that wouldn’t be necessary as I was where I was going…I took some deep breaths and regained composure when all of sudden here he came again for round two. (I am still sitting in the same spot and three minutes had passed). He flies up next to me screaming he is watching me and daring for me to follow him. Ahhhhh! Some people should not have crystal meth for breakfast! Not a great way to start the work week but it was comforting to know I had the CHL. It’s what it is for.
Part two….one week to the day, I arrive at the local grocery to do some shopping about 8:30 at night. As I pull up I notice two cart guys hovering around the car in front of me. Then I hear the yelling. A crazed loony guy was on a rampage throwing his grocers at the youths and screaming at the top of his lungs come take my money!!!!! I immediately noticed his arm which had a hospital tag on it so he was fresh out of whatever ward he came from. The manager was just coming out of the store to rescue the kids and the guy had just gotten into his car. I fortunately did not get cabbage tossed my direction. I asked the manager if he called the police to which he said “hell yea. Again, it was only vegetables but comforting to know that there was protection close. Two nuts in a week, fortunately week two has been quiet.

Note to self... Don't hang out with Tropical1!
Man, are you unlucky. In the almost three years I've had a CHL, I've never come this close. Once in my life I came across a mentally confused individual in the middle of the interstate (literally standing in the middle of the road). Like an idiot, it looked like he needed help so I stopped. My wife liked to kill me and I sure regretted the stop. I sure would have felt better to have a sidearm in case things got ugly (they did not get threatening, just weird).

Baytown? Not sure which is worse.
About the time I just came to Houston. One day driving down I10E towards Beltway 8. Didn't know what I did wrong, all the sudden a car in front of started to block my way on purpose. I couldn't get out to 8, or the next exit, or the one after.
It was then I realized that I was in America and I should get a gun! Glad to have my cell phone with me at the time.
Here, I raise an issue: how many of you know what anybody can find you in about a few minutes just by checking your license plate# online?
It was very discomforting when DPS requests address and SSN for CHL. I don't think they have any intention to keep those records confidential.

They'll deliver a gun to you in your car on the freeway in Houston? Heck, I thought pizza drivers delivering to cars in traffic jams was cool.Stupid wrote:It was then I realized that I was in America and I should get a gun! Glad to have my cell phone with me at the time.
Well, unless it's changed in the last few years, publicdata.com used to offer a cross reference on the address to get all DL/ID/plate information registered to that address, cross ref on the name from the plate to get the DL info, plus cross ref on the DL number to get previous names (maiden name, etc) from that DL number. Here, I raise an issue: how many of you know what anybody can find you in about a few minutes just by checking your license plate# online?
