I was in there today taking care of some business and on the way out I stopped by and asked the security guard, who seemed more into her phone than anything, if it was legal to conceal carry in the building to which she qucikly and lazily replied no.
I told her I couldnt find any signs of ANY TYPE forbidding guns anywhere on the building(not even the little no smoking gun sign) and was just wondering. I'll have to ask a cop next time I find on in there and see what he/she has to say.
But in the mean time does anyone know what the REAL truth is regarding Dallas City Hall?

2. It's not a school.
3. It's not a court (presumably; there might be some court offices somewhere in the building).
4. So, it's not on the list of prohibited places in PC 46.03; carry away.

Also, if a "meeting of a government entity" takes place (city council, various boards and authorities, etc.), they can post the meeting with a 30.06 notice. But, they can only post the meeting, not the building.

With a few exceptions, the level of knowledge amongst the Dallas Security folks is limited. There are a few I know that have a much better level of understanding but they are the minority. There are no court offices in the building and the city removed all of their weird language "no concealed carry signs" when the law changed.

The cops by and large are cool with CCW but it is ill advised to ask anyone there if its "okay". There are also a couple of secured areas, needing a card or escort to get into...but those are obvious.

NEVER ASK anyone (other than here on this Forum) if it's "OK".

Most will not have a clue and you identify yourself as a person possibly armed to a clueless person.

Well, I did ask if it was ok to "leagally" conceal implying a CHL, though I did not specify a CHL since to carry without a CHL would then not be carrying "legally". I would think most people who should know would know the difference and what I meant but then again I suppose I would aslo be expecting those same people to have some common sence.....and let's be honest....

There you go trying to think logically. I say this all the time at work. Sometimes I'm serious and sometimes in jest. Most people that do not have a CHL or who aren't thinking about getting one are clueless regarding gun laws. To go one further, many people that have a CHL don't know as much as they should about them. Including me, but with the help of this forum I'm learning. This forum is a great example of that.

Well, as of tomorrow they have security screenings at the entrance to City Hall. The new FAQ never even mentions CHL. Despite the law being clear that CHL holders can't be prohibited from City Hall with concealed handguns - only from the actual council meetings, as they have always been via the security screening at the entrance to chambers.

I don't have any business there this week, and the first week they will have all other kinds of problems, but if they try to part CHL, then we need to fight this. The law is very clear.

Might be worth starting a dialog there for those that it affects...

I asked on the FB page: "I noticed firearms were on the list of prohibited items. Will you be preventing Concealed Handgun License holders from lawfully entering with their concealed firearm?"

Their response: "CHL holders will be allowed access in accordance w/ applicable laws."

Good news! Although I don't see the comments on FB, which may be how they want it. This is definitely one of those times I would be printing out the information provided that CHL is legal, as I don't trust that to have been communicated to all of Dallas City Hall security. What you bet they escort you to a DPD officer and let him figure it out like at the State Fair? Likely the one stationed in the main lobby...
