What does "in printing" mean ( for a new CHL)?

#1

Post by ranger0286 »

I applied for a new CHL (I submitted the packet August 11th) and I just got off the phone with Texas DPS. I never received the PIN # so I called to make sure they received my application. The lady said they received it and that it's in printing. I then asked, "So is the background check being conducted," and she said very abruptly, "NO, IT'S IN PRINTING." I then told her thank you for your time and I hung up the phone. What exactly does "in printing" mean? Thanks for any responses.

I would assume that mean that it has been sent to the printer. When I was told mine was out to the printer i received it in about 2.5 weeks.

DPS is using a 3rd party group to actually make the license now. "In printing" means you are done processing and your license has been sent out to the printing group to be made.

Good grief! Another August submission, and it's already going to the printers. What is this world coming to?

Thank you very much everybody. I'm very excited. I'm only 22 years old and I am glad I got this done early on in life. This forum has been very beneficial.
I'm located in Harris County, so I'm surprised they did it so fast.

Wow - 40 days. There's hope for the rest who've recently submitted their packets (barring a brain-fart on our part as far as the contents goes).
Took class, paid fees, changed my mind. I want constitutional carry.

You're not the only one!! It took mine 5 months last fall. Ike had something to say about that.

Congrats, and welcome to the forum.

The cards get printed very early in the process. They get ISSUED at the end. I dont think you are at the end yet.

Say huh?

Where did you get your facts from? Why would you believe the cards get printed before you are approved? Can you clarify your comment for us, please?

Its my understanding that applications are only sent off to be printed once a "technician", as they call them, reviews the application and all supporting documentation for that individual. If there are no disqualifying items found by the tech, the application is approved and then sent to the queue for printing. Once the license comes back from printing, the same technician puts the license in an envelope and updates the website to show "License Active, blah blah blah". At this point, the process is complete....
05/29/2009 - CHL class
06/01/2009 - Mailed application to DPS
06/02/2009 - Application Received by DPS via USPS
07/07/2009 - PIN Received (via snail mail - dated 7/3) - Processing App
09/24/2009 - Told license is in queue for printing
10/15/2009 - Application Approved
10/19/2009 - Plastic in Hand!

What??? Are you sure??? When it's in the technician's hands, that means it's one step closer to being approved?? Oh my. A tech has my file right now.

Hmmm...well that cuts like a 2 edged sword. The tech could also find something wrong....OR....go ahead and send it up the line and put in for printing. Deep breaths Joe, deep cleansing breaths. "rlol"

The DPS representative I spoke to many times during my long wait led me to believe that the card was ready long before it was approved. I cant recall the exact discussion, it was not relevant to the issue at the moment. I can assure you they start the clock when your packet is received, not issued, as far as the time limit till renewal. In my case a nearly a year was burned off .
My status never showed "in printing". I checked it daily.
