Elementary school safety

#1

Post by Beiruty »

Each day I drop and pick up my 7yrs daughter from her Elementary school just a 1-mile away from my house.
As you know, on the premises, i.e. inside the buildings, we CHLers cannot carry. However, at the pick up time. All the kids and their teachers are outside trying to get the kids in their parents' cars.

I observed that this is a really security nightmare scenario for any mentally disturbed so called victim of the " unjust" society who is bent on taking revenge from said society.
How do the Police Department, State Officials, or school officials provide basic security for the kids? do they hire commissioned undercover officers? Or, just turn a black eye to the attentional risk of catastrophe?

I bet very little is done. Academia still feels safe becuase it is labled a "Gun Free Zone". They wrap themselves in a warm blanket thinking it's a bullet proof vest. We'll see how many catastrophies it will take I guess....

I'm just thankful we home-school.

The mentality I am pretty sure goes along the lines of "it will never happen to us."

I highly doubt any school system would hire undercover PD to provide the type of security you described, and each campus is lucky to have one full-time LEO on site.

For some strange reason, the Texas Legislature sees schoolchildren as being less worthy of protecting, given their great reluctance to permit concealed carry on school campuses. Sadly, it will take a Columbine in Texas to wake these yahoos up to reality. In the meantime, be vigilant, carry when you drop off/pick up your daughter, and just pray that she remains safe during the school day.

You can carry on a school campus with a Texas CHL, you just can't carry in the buildings or at a school sponsored function on school grounds.
