sign at my grocery store
i was waiting for my son to get off of work and noticed a sign for the first time it is along the lines but not right words.
WARNING it is unlawful to carry a unlicensed firearm in to this facility.
there is more to it but the main question is if i carry is it ok.
it has nothing along the lines of the 30.06 or anything of that matter.
thanks

Re: sign at my grocery store
as long as there are no other signs and you have a ccl you should be fine as it states the unlicensed possesion is unlawful.since you have a license there should be no problems just my .02 cents

Re: sign at my grocery store
The sign means that the grocery store has a liquor license. They probably sell beer and wine for off-premises consumption. The sign has NO meaning to a CHL holder.

Re: sign at my grocery store
Brian,
I am guessing that the grocery store sells beer/wine. If so, then they are required to post the sign. Re-read the sign and you will see that it refers to the "unlicensed carrying" of the fire arm. Texas does not have licensing for firearms.
If you do not have a CHL you commit a felony by bringing a firearm into the store. If you have a CHL, the sign has no effect on you and you are not breaking any law by carrying there.
Assuming you have your CHL I suggest that you review the booklet you had for your class regarding concealed handgun laws. If you do not have one you can reprint it at the following wweb address:
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/ftp/forms/ls-16.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The hazards of our not knowing the laws that relate to CHL are considerable. We could probably all stand to review the laws periodically.
Hope this helps. Good Luck to you.

Re: sign at my grocery store
I bet your grocery store sells alcohol. If they do, they have to post the "unlicensed" sign per TABC rules. It has no effect on a CHL holder unless they forgot their ID that day and happened to get caught carrying inside. Then they'd get to be a test case.

Then they are actually required by law to post that sign you mentioned. Don't hold it against the store at all.brian704 wrote:thank you for the the link i am going to print it out. and yes they do sell wine and beer and what not.

Re: sign at my grocery store
I like those signs. Though I am probably deluding myself, I like to believe that they recognize that there are LEGAL firearms being carried into their establishment.brian704 wrote:i was waiting for my son to get off of work and noticed a sign for the first time it is along the lines but not right words.

These, or similar, signs are near the doors at the Sam's and Walmart in Lufkin, too.
Re: sign at my grocery store
As already stated, these are supposed to be posted by any store that sells liquor for off-premise consumption. Every Stop 'n Rob should have them posted. Most of the time they are camouflaged due to being in the collage of lottery and cigarette signs.

Re: sign at my grocery store
Brian, that "licensed " part of the sign corresponds to the L in your CHL.
You are covered.
You are covered.

Maybe if the "Stop 'n Rob's" would put their signs out in the open, they wouldn't get robbed so much.Keith B wrote:As already stated, these are supposed to be posted by any store that sells liquor for off-premise consumption. I think he's talking about the unlicensed possession sign required by section 61.11 of the alcoholic beverage code.dihappy wrote:whats an "unlicensed firearm"?
