San Antonio Trip

So, I'm taking a family trip to San Antonio this spring break and am curious about no carry areas. Comming from Dallas amking a stop at The Natural Bridge Caverns then on to the City. Will be going to Alamo, Sea World River Walk Etc.... I know Sea World and Alamo are off limits, but what about the other places. Anyone have any experience with the city have any insight? Thanks for the comments.

Just so you know, the Alamo is NOT legally off limits. It is owned by the State of Texas and is not a meeting site or court room.

Last I heard, it was posted, but the posting is not truly legal.

Ditto on the Alamo NOT being legally off limits. There are some old threads on this if your search is halfway decent. Have carried their myself.

Haven't "touristed" lately , but have carried many times on the Riverwalk itself. There are some 51% establishments there, I think, but lots of restaurants and shops that are not verboten. I did see a 30.06 sign down there once, but can't remember where, been some years back, and lots of other places to go. Haven't been to the Tower of Americas since they refurb'd it, so don't know there (for all I know, the city owns the building?).

Stay concealed, have fun, behave yourself , you should be fine.

The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce actively fought and lobbied against the Parking Lot Bill 2 years ago. It is likely they are fighting us again this session. Almost all the Hotel are members of the Chamber of Commerce I wrote to the 2 hotels I used to frequent and explained why I won't go there any more. I used to go at least a couple times a year.

One more thing about San Antonio: the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center has signs posted citing TPC 30.05. Remember that 30.05 has no bearing on CHL carry.

You might want to do a seach on Sea World as it has been discussed here before. IIRC it does not meet the definition of an amusement park and it is not properly posted.

If you plan on sitting in the 'Splash Zone' you might want to consider a ziplock bag as protection for your protection.

Sea World is not posted 30.06 so it is not off limits. Just be mindful they do bag checks. No metal detectors or pat downs. I do not remember if Six Flags is posted as it has been a few years since we went there. The zoo is not posted either. There are lots of places to go and I have only ever seen one legitament 30.06 sign..... Funny thing is it was at the Bexar County Tax Assessor Collector'' office - so not a legally binding sign anyway!

A slight correction, the Alamo is not owned by the state of Texas, but by the Daughters of the Republic Of Texas. They have owned and operated the Alamo historic site, which includes the Shrine, the Long Barracks, park and museum gift shop since about 1912. There have been several attempts to transfer control of the site to the Texas Parks Department, the last in 1994, but then Governor George W. Bush vetoed the attempt, and vowed to veto any future attempts as long as he was Governor (source-Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamo_Miss ... an_Antonio" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). I don't believe this has changed since Rick Perry became Governor in 2001, but I could be wrong there. I don't belive it's posted, the last time I was there, a few months ago, the only sign I was was the same one asking for respectful quiet and removal of hats while in the Shrine.

If you read that article carefully, it mentions that the legislature bought the buildings in 1905. They then appointed the DRT as the managers. The only way the state could move control back to TPWD is if they really owned it. Otherwise, they would have had to use eminent domain or try to convince the DRT to sell.

And, the conclusive proof is on the Alamo's own web site. Under the faq's, it specifically states it is owned by the State of Texas and operated by the DRT.

I stand corrected, thank you. Thats what I get for reading something a few hours after a certain routine medical screening proceedure for 50 year olds that involves general anesthetic and a camera in a certain part of the body. They should have said, no driving, no signing contracts and no posting on internet boards for 24 hours.

For CHL purposes, "amusement park" is defined by Penal Code 46.035(f)(1).

I believe I have read (and here the search function is your friend) that this definition was intended to include only AstroWorld and Six Flags at the time.
