Movies at Firewheel Mall in Garland, TX

#1

Post by Reborn »

Has anyone noticed the 30:06 signs at Firewheel Mall Theaters in Garland, Texas? I see a couple of things wrong with them. They are not 1 inch letter and they are not on every entrance. Has anyone written them yet? I am fixing to draft an email up today. Is there a listing on this web site where businesses that have a 30:06 sigh up? I know of a Taco Cabana in Rockwall has also posted a 30:06 sign.Does anyone here have a copy of a well written letter to a business trying to get an establishment to take down a sign? Thanks,

I took a ruler to the AMC Willowbrook signs in Houston a few weeks ago, and indeed, the letters were about 1/2" tall, making the signs non-compliant. If you find the signs at AMC Firewheel are non-compliant, you might want to log into texas3006.com and let Russell know so the record can be changed. Of all the AMC's listed on Russell's site, only one (Firewheel) claims to have a valid 30.06 sign.

I'm on the fence about writing companies that post invalid 30.06 signs. Did the store managers purposefully post invalid 30.06 signs to abide by some corporate policy they might not agree with? Do we really want to let stores know that they are posting invalid signs?

A good point on not pointing out the the bad sign. I wouldn't tell them exactly what the problem with the sign is. I would just say it wasn't compliant to the state requirement. I can tell you though that a person would probably be arrested and make the ride downtown. They wouldn't be able to make it stick but it would certainly be hassle. I thought about just xeroxing the page from the Texas Concealed Handbook just in case I was caught inside with a firearm.

They are not compliant.

An easy way to tell: The letters should be the size of a quarter. If not, they are too small.

Doing the math in my head, usiin a 72 point font, the sign would have to be 3 times larger than a regular 8.5x11 piece of paper, assuming teh same porportions. There's no way you can get a compliant sign on an 8.5x11 piece of paper, not to mention anything smaller.

I doubt you'd take a ride, frankly.

1) They'd have to find your CONCEALED gun.
2) They'd have to call the police.
3) The police would have to be ignorant of the law and unwilling to listen.

If ALL of those things happen, and it should NEVER get past the first thing not happening, then you might take a ride. But talking to a well reasoned manager and telling me, "Look, your sign isn't compliant. If you have me arrested, you're going to get sued. You can ask me to leave and I'll leave, or you can enjoy a legal mess. Your call, Sparkey." Most managers at that point will have you leave.

Just for fun, here's as much of a compliant sign you could get on an 8.5x11 piece of paper.

Morgan.....Actually they have an LEO there on Saturday nights anyway. Most LEO are clueless to the finer details of the CHL world unless they are very pro as I was. The the rest of your statement is very good about a law suit. In fact you could threaten to go after him personally in civil court if he wanted to push the issue. By the way I have seen a compliatn sign and it measured 17 across by 22 long.

Well, I'm relatively certain that you could talk your way out of trouble with MOST police officers if you know chapter and verse. Certainly not all of course. But I do stand firmly behind point 1. :)
