Sobering Read
A friend emailed me an article. I will not paste the article, but will provide the link to the author's website. The author is a French filmmaker who does documentaries. His latest work is on suicide bombers. There is lots of stuff on his site, but the piece I read is on the home page and is halfway down and is titled "The Counterterrorism Blog Interview with Pierre Rehov, documentary filmmaker, on psychology behind suicide bombings."
Not intending to start any wild discussion on world religions, but the author does illustrate support for the asssertion that Islam is not a religion of peace.
I firmly think that in our current time, we will likely use our self defense skills and training either in another Katrina/Rita scenario, against illegal immigrants, or against terrorists on our home soil. Just my opinion.

No religion is really a religion of peace. You can find some pretty horiffic passages in the Bible to tell you to kill people for pretty simple transgressions. To me, blaming the religion is only half right.C
Most hristians these days realise the teachings of Jesus have little to do with stoning your wife to death if she walks out during her period, or selling her into slavery.
The big problem is the fact that in Islam, the lunatics have taken control of that religion. Imagine if Revrend Fred Phelps managed to get an entire region behind him. I think most of us agree that Phelps is a moron, but if he got a following, it'd be a lot like what's happened to Islam.
So i'd say, "Islam, as practiced today, throughout a large portion of the middle east is not a religion of peace"
There are plenty of muslims in this country, and others, but that doesn't mean I don't worry about the nutcases out there, either.
Notice, I only said, "Half Right". Read the Koraan sometime. Mohammed was not the peaceful preacher of Love and Tolerance that Jesus was.

I have frinds who are Arab Muslims. I have known several Arab Christians as well.
Irregardless of their stated faith, they are all significantly lean more toward the fanatical side than the vast majority of non-Arab Christians. The Arab Christians treated their wives and children exactly the same as the Muslim Arabs. I found this odd.
The most striking characteristic about Arabs in particular that I have noticed is that if they consider you a friend, they are totally your friend. In the same manner, if they consider you an enemy, there is no changing that fact as well.
Anygun

Sadly, most Christians don't have the same passion (minus the violence) that most muslims do. An attitude of complete tolerance and apathy have led this country to where it is today. The time to fight for what we believe has long since past and now instead of fighting to maintain our rights and beliefs, we are fighting just to catch up and regain them. Christ was a man of peace and tolerance, as we should also be. But he also knew there was a time to fight for what is right and good and he commanded us to keep up the good fight, to be ever watchful for those who would seek to do us harm. The attacks of 9/11 seem to show we have dropped our guard and the fanatics are more than ready and willing to bring the violence to our shores. We need to be prepared.
A man with a passion and conviction will overcome a man with a preference every time. If we don't have one already, we need to get a passion and conviction for what we believe and it will have to be stronger than the passion of those who seek to overcome us (whether it be the Anti-Gunners or whomever).
Sorry for the Sermon. I'll get off of my soap box now.

I agree. The problem as I see it is people “Don’t know what they believe therefore they have no passion or convictions.A man with a passion and conviction will overcome a man with a preference every time. If we don't have one already, we need to get a passion and conviction for what we believe and it will have to be stronger than the passion of those who seek to overcome us (whether it be the Anti-Gunners or whomever).
Our great country was founded on freedom of beliefs; this also includes a freedom not to believe in anything at all.
And often, those who have a strong belief have no idea “Why they believe the way they do.
As a Christian, I had to stop and ask myself this question years ago, “Why do I believe and “What is my belief based on. For example: if I believe in the Bible, as a Christian, are those beliefs based on what it really says, or what someone told me it said?
Once answered the passion and convictions in my beliefs had a foundation.
So it is with many Americans, they are not sure what they believe, even the ones who claim to be Christians, Muslims, etc.
Just my 2 cents.

You are absolutely on the money Brett. There are people (and I am not going to say most because I dont know it to be fact) who find it easier to go with the flow and let others do their thinking for them. Their opinion, style of dress, etc. is whatever happens to be the current fad or latest topic on the T.V. Rather than research the matter and base a decision on what the facts show, they will hear a certain actor said this or a model said that and that is what they believe. It sways with the slightest breeze. I believe on another forum they called them "Sheeple".
