DPS listing of Certified Instructors

I haven't seen this question anywhere and feel somewhat :oops: for asking....but want to be sure I cover all my bases. How often does DPS update thier listing on the DPS website of certified CHL instructors? I went to my local gunstore (and Academy too) to look around and picked up several business cards of guys that do CHL classes. I thought I'd found one I wanted to take, but I noticed the guy wasn't on the DPS listing of Certified CHL instructors on the DPS site. I got to looking and a couple of the others weren't either. is it possible that they got certified after the list was posted (and it hasn't been updated)? or is this a red flag?

is this unusual? should I be concerned about taking a class with someone not listed on the site? surely if this guy wasn't certified, he'd of been busted already by the other people taking his class? I'm really looking forward to taking a class, and can't wait to get my license (Even though it'll take forever) so I want to be sure and do it "right" the first time.

thoughts?

If you look in the upper right corner of this document: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administra ... uctors.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It says, "rev 0907." That would be over a year ago.

Only instructors can obtain the TR-100 form, which says that you passed the course. Furthermore, passing oneself off as a bogus instructor is probably a serious crime (though I don't know which section of the penal code it would violate).

thanks for the help guys. I figured to pose as a CHL instructor would be crazy...but you never know nowdays! thanks for the additonal link...I'll check that list to see if it lists the "other guys" not listed on the CHL list from DPS.

The way that DPS triple-checks everything, I would think they would catch a phony instructor the first time an application came in with his signature on it.

Good luck with your class.

I believe the Texas CHL Instructors Assoc only lists instructors that are members of TXCHIA. I understand why, but their list will be incomplete.

DPS is notoriously slow about updating that info.

I'm not sure what the requirements are to be listed on the TXCHIA site, but sadly, there weren't ANY in my area listed there. so i'm guessing it's not as complete as the DPS site. But...I agree with you guys in that I doubt any of them would make it long if they weren't actually certified. I'll do a little more checking and if all is good go ahead with the guy. I can't wait.

I ran across a guy on DefensiveCarry.com that got his Texas license in 65 days...said he just got it about a week ago...is it true that they are starting to move things much better now and have gotten past the backlog? I can live with 65 days (well..I can live with it much better than alot of the times I've seen on here!).
