Got the adrenaline flowing tonight

#1

Post by AndyAg08 »

So tonight I'm laying in bed, almost asleep and then I hear the dog barking in the back yard. There is the usual bark she has at night and then there is the I really got something this time bark. This was the latter

So I wake up a little more and listen and I hear our back sliding door open! At this point I grab the gun off the night stand and slowly open my door. I then take a few steps towards the den which is where the sliding door is. As I get to the den I see a flashlight click on and off twice, then completely off.

So at this point my hearts racing, the adrenaline is flowing, my body is on full alert. Since its pitch black I reach around the corner and flip on the den light to see what creature of the night I'm up against, and then my mom walks in...she had gone outside to see what the dog was barking at (before yall start jumping to conclusions and cracking jokes about living with my mom I just graduated college 3 weeks ago and Im still looking for a job so at this point my options are limited)

So after its all said and done turns out my dog had come across a family of 4 or 5 raccoons in a tree and that is what all the fuss was about "rlol"

Its funny now, but for a minute there it was a pretty intense moment for me. Hope yall get a good laugh out of this

Wow! Mom was lucky it was just a raccoon family! You need to sit down with Mom and warn her about the dangers of investigating nighttime noises armed with a flashlight. I tip my hat to you for keeping your cool while the adrenaline was surging. Similar scenarios have ended with "Son shoots Mom mistaking her for an intruder " on the evening news. Plan a course of action with Mom for the next adventure.

Absolutely. Right now my wife is visiting family in another state. She sees the trash cans knocked over at night. She goes out to clean up. It was done by the bears coming down from the mountains to fatten up for winter. SHE KNEW THAT! Boy did I rip her one for going out, at night, around food, around bears (possibly with cubs) and no protection. Told her to get big can of bear spray and go out at night only if absolutely necessary and don't do it without the bear spray.

Yes, you absolutely need to have the "I have a gun" talk with mom to prevent this situation from happening again. Drawing a weapon on your mom the first time may get ignored, but drawing your weapon on your Mom a second time is surely going to get you 2 weeks grounding... "rlol"

Big Blue is right. One shouldn't draw a gun on one's Momma :nono: ; unless of course, Momma is not a nice Momma. In that event: :fire

Did you send her a little bell to go with the bear spray?

Good advice.

In general, going outside to investigate what may be a prowler is almost always a really bad idea.

The situation is much better managed with all the good guys inside and prepared to deal with a break on the perimeter, and law enforcement on the way.

Using a powerful light from inside to see if you can identify the source of the concern is OK too, but going outside is definitely the highest risk way to go, and almost always unnecessary in a residential setting.

A rural farm may present a different situation and call for different tactics.
