Re: Texas3006.com - advice needed
I am webmaster at fishingtexasonline.com and huntingtexasonline.com, and we run Google ads on those pages. It's been a while since I logged into the Google ads setup page, but if I'm not mistaken, you can run ads as a horizontal banner (ours are vertical). You can insert the Google Ad code at the bottom of your page, which would enable you to run more ads (= more revenue) while not disrupting the page too much.
In our case, we're running those ads on all pages. We also sell ad space directly, in a vertical banner format, and we use a rotation script to rotate the ads displayed in those spaces.
I hope that helps.

They look fine to me Russell - and let me say thank you again for hosting Texas3006. I've been much more vigilant since applying for my CHL (and carrying my concealed, empty, IWB holster around to get used to it) in looking for signs, mostly 'cause I want to know where to avoid when my plastic comes, but also 'cause I want something to contribute to the site! As yet, I haven't found any (I guess I shouldn't complain too hard!), and only verified the SeaWorld discussion (it's a non-30.06 generic gunbusters sign, as posted). But I'll keep looking!
Re: the ads, do you get paid per click-through, or per page-view? You get paid whether or not anyone spends any money on the ad-linked site, right? If so, I'll make it my mission to visit your page every morning and click through 4 or 5 ads, just to say thanks.

Ditto on clicking ads for your benefit. However, I'm having trouble getting onto your site. It keeps timing out. Anybody else having this problem?

The ads aren't excessive and don't bother me.

Russell, I'm sure it was mentioned that you host that website somewhere before and I missed it. So I just now found out that it's you doing it. Thanks for such a great resource! I've recently put a few up there and noticed quite a few names that I see here pretty often.
Now, knowing that it'll help out, I'll click on the ads when I'm on there too! Thanks again for your time on such a valuable resource for the rest of us!

I don't see anything wrong with the adds. They do not take away from the site at all. By the way I have told you before you have done a wonderful job with the site.

Very cool - I went to the "Signs" page and cycled through the ads there, and my CHL instructor LoneStar Handgun was in there.Russell wrote:I'm working to try to get the ads that show up on the website to at least be relevant and maybe give some of our gun shops and CHL instructors some advertising if they go through Adsense.

Don't do that! As a business owner who pays for Google AdWords, I have long taken my ads off of the content network as I find tons of clicks with very little conversion. It's actions such as what you are suggesting that ruins it for everybody.

As a heads up, Google usually will notice these types of click-throughs, and filter them out, and possibly reduce the overall amount of revenue the site gets. Only click on an ad if you're actually interested, and most certainly don't discuss doing otherwise on the forum (it's against the AdSense Terms of Service).thejtrain wrote: Re: the ads, do you get paid per click-through, or per page-view?
