Dr. visit

I know this has been covered here before but I thought I would relay my experience.

I finally "bit the bullet" so to speak and went to a local clinic for a nagging cold yesterday. Carrying has become so natural that I feel naked without it and found myself going through "what if scenarios" in the waiting room anticipating the doctor's examination. I calmed down and decided that I would worry about "being made" if and when it happened.

The nurse did my vitals and is none the wiser. The doctor, not my regular by the way but one that I know, comes in and has me set on the table and lean forward as I do the breathing thing. Now at this point he is behind me and I know the butt (no not mine) is got to be printing like a neon sign as he does the stethoscope through my shirt. He is none the wiser or at least doesn't ackowledge anything...examination over, and he orders an injection.

The nurse comes in to give the injection, asks which hip, I say, "Left," and grasp my carry on the right as I drop the pants low enough for the injection. The nurse is none the wiser.

I honestly think neither one knew.

Not rocephin this time but I've had one before...good stuff for an infection.

After the rocephin, I drove 3 miles to the pharmacy to pick up meds and when I got out of the truck I too did the "horse kick shuffle." :eek6

I had almost the exact same experience last week.

Was going to the Dr., but also had a full day of errands after and didn't want to go without.

Dr. checked breathing on chest and back. If he noticed, he never said.

I just had surgery on my hand, and I had to take some stronger than Tylenol meds for the pain. They tried Vicodin, but I couldn't take it, so we settled on Codeine. The first one made me itch, the second seemed to have no effect other than pain relief. However, the point is that any meds can make you not behave normally. I plan very carefully, when taking meds, so that I'm not carrying while I might be impaired and not know that I am. I endure the pain in order to get home, where I can safety my gun ... then, I take the meds. The reason is that, while I was an assistant Chaplain for the Co. Jail, I ran across a Pastor's wife, who had the flu. She went to the Dr. just before picking the kids up from school. So, she took the meds that the Dr. gave her as samples in his office. Then, she went to the school and fell asleep in her car, as it was warm, while waiting for the kids to get out. The kids arrived, she started the car, still half asleep and not realizing that she was impaired by the meds. She ran over the curb, the school cop saw her, ticketed her and put her in jail for DUI. Now, I run into/over curbs without being impaired, just because I drive a mini-van and can't see everywhere around it. I would hate to have to admit that I'd recently taken pain or flu meds, after one of my "curb checks" and get put in jail by an over-zealous public servant. So, I'm overly cautious about taking meds, while carrying, even if it might put me in pain or in danger. Pain won't kill me, but I think being put in jail would. Just my take on the topic.

Good point about th DUI G-Ma.

I would not even dream of taking a narcotic painkiller and carry or drive for that matter. I have a CDL which has zero tolerance toward DUI whether you are in your personal vehicle or not; in other words, there is no legal limit for any impairing sbustance, alcohol or otherwise. You drive impaired and are caught, you lose your license. As a result, I tend to be very careful about taking even over the counter meds and driving.
