Carry at the American Airlines Center?

#1

Post by Eddie A. »

I'm attending a Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert at the American Airlines center and was wondering if anyone has carried there or knows if you can? They have metal detectors there, but I'm not sure if they are posted.

We had a nice discussion about this one a little while ago. General concensous here was that there is no law that allows the AAC to ban carry there (since they are government owned) but they do have a policy against it. There usually aren't metal detectors there so you would probably get away with it if you didn't ask, but that you would need to be willing to be the test case and fight the law (possibly in court) if you are challenged. We think you would win...

There are some strongly held opinions on this.

It's 12 pages. You might want to brew up a cup of coffee first.

The bottom line is that the people holding the 30 year lease, who are also the people who the police detail and security guards work for and take orders from, and who have the keys to the doors, say you can't carry in there. Right or wrong, in the here and now, you can't carry in there. If you happen to go there on a night where there are no metal detectors in use and manage to get in and out undetected with a well-concealed gun, you will be doing so at your own risk.

And absent litigation, corrective/clarifying legislation, or a favorable opinion from the AG requested by someone with proper standing to do so, I do not think it will change any time soon.

Don't be the test case.

Just an update. I went to see the Tran-Siberian Orchestra and decided NOT to be the test case. However, I didn't go unarmed, I had my tactical folder in my pocket and it wasn't an issue. Thanks for all the answers.
