Teen videotapes passenger assault in Brooklyn subway car

I'm wondering what I would do if this happened to me... At what point can I use lethal force? Or do I just call 911... What do y'all think?
Watching this video, I can't help but see a significant difference in culture that I've been blissfully ignorant of. I definitely feel sad for the attitude exhibited by the BGs.

DECEMBER 5--A group of teenage girls menaced a male subway rider before attacking him as their train pulled into a Brooklyn station, a violent assault videotaped last month by a high school student who, of course, immediately uploaded the clip to YouTube. The 4:18 video, which you'll find below, was shot on the A train as it traveled in Bedford-Stuyvesant (subway ads and the train's stops indicate that the footage was shot late at night several weeks ago). The video was uploaded to YouTube on November 7 by Kadejra Holmes, a high school student and aspiring Harlem filmmaker. In a brief online chat, Holmes denied being part of the girl gang that attacked the male rider, who appeared to be about 30. Minutes after being asked by TSG about the train video, Holmes, 17, deleted the footage (and her entire page) from YouTube. As seen in the clip, the group of girls taunted and threatened the seated male rider as the train moved from the Ralph Avenue station to the Rockaway Avenue stop. As members of the group inched closer--and threatened to strike him--the man remained calm, asking the girls, "Why are you arguing? Please stop, stop." As the train pulled into Broadway Junction, a girl off-camera could be heard predicting, "They gonna hit him, I know it." Within moments, the man, who had stood up, was shoved down and pummeled by members of the gang. As the tape ends, the victim--who was also struck in the face with a plastic soda bottle during the assault--is continuing to be struck by two of the girls. When she posted the video, Holmes titled it, "jump up to get beat down," an apparent reference to "Punks Jump Up To Get Beat Down," an old single by Brand Nubian. The 1992 cut's video featured members of the rap group throttling various unfortunate opponents, two of whom get their bloody comeuppance in a subway car.

I believe the best option was to try and walk out facing them as not to be struck in the back unexpectedly. If that didnt work I would turn on all 100% of spewing adrenaline I could muster to back them off and get out of there. If that didnt work, MY weapon is being produced as I walk away. If that doesnt work, someone is getting a few in them as I walk away, with a few left over I will keep walking away with what I have. Unless of course someone wants some more of it.
Letting it go as far as this guy did, someone would have had a stomach full of lead when they jumped on top of me and it would have been point blank range.
These heatens want to make it some sort of "race war" bull with their "that white $hit" comments as I believe I heard a few imply, than THEY will be the first casulaties and a few less on the battlefield!!
I believe this would fit VERY WELL within the realms of belief that serious injury could occur without the use of deadly force to protect myself. Now in that sorry state of NY this guy would probably have gotten in trouble, but here, I believe a Texas would be well within their rights being outnumbered 5 to 1 (maybe more as some of those other morons were jumping in to the side).

Watching and listening to that video just makes me seethe. If I was in that position and I was attacked, I would have no problem knocking them out, regardless of their gender.

That video made me sick, irrational people dont belong in society. I might of sat there for a while, mostly because they were women, but you can only take so much crap. As soon as he got hit in the face I would of been up fighting...then of course I would of gone to jail because Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would lead a bagillion man march to put away a "racist" criminal. /puke

I saw this earlier today. I never saw any situation where "lethal" force would be justified. Your sidearm shouldn't be the first thing you think about.
Definitely pepper spray, but in that confined area, you would tick off alot more people than just the antagonizers.
I completely agree that if they want to rumble like men, they get treated like men.
This guy was trying not to laugh. He didn't see what we all saw coming. He had no mental prep to defend himself and they knew it. This is why we try to live in condition yellow.

I dunno, doesn't it say that a firearm can be used as an equalizer if attacked by a gang of people? I mean, surely if there are several people all bent on beating you down, there is potential for serious bodily injury, and he tried to leave, but they shoved him back down into the seat. I mean, what if one of them decided to hold onto the bar, and kick into the guy's face while he was being sat up by the other gang members? That kind of stuff has happened before by groups of people, and has the potential to seriously injure or kill someone. Pepper spray is out of the question IMO in that close of an area. What if someone on the train has asthma? You'd gas them, and they would have nowhere to go. Honestly, I think a firearm might be the best option if they ganged up like that.

this is why you don't remain seated and wait for it to go away...
a defensive posture goes a LONG way... get off your feet, get your back to a wall, and get ready... whether that be an equal amount of force in your opinion from fighting back/spray (though as mentioned not a good idea in a cab like that)/firearm/etc...
the worst thing to do is ignore the situation, lose any advantage by letting that situation control you, and leave yourself open...
Observe, Orient, Decide, Act... don't WAIT.

I don't think you would find alot of sympathy in court that a group of high school girls caused a threat to you justifying lethal force. Then again I'm 6'4" and well over 300 pounds I wouldnt have much trouble neutralizing that threat. I think the guy showed great restraint. After they started swinging someone would have been layed out the others would have backed of quickly. Again though I probably wouldnt have found myself in that situation to begin with. I don't get confronted much but the disadvantage being when I do I have to assume they are either crazy or armed ha. Anyhow where it a group of grown men then yes I'd say you run the risk of being beaten to death. But a pack of ignorant hood rat girls well I just don't know unless they had a weapon.

Agreed. If a woman hit me, I'd try to restrain her. If multiple attacked me unprovoked, I'd knock each one out without feeling any remorse. Nah, not even sharpton can defend this stuff

Had one of these fine upstanding young ladies got knocked out by the victim, I'm willing to bet the others would have scattered like flies.
