Mrs. Oldgringo and I:

* Paid state fees on 19 October electronically
* Attended Renewal Class on 21 October
* Mailed Both CHL 100's on 22 October in one certified, return receipt requested envelope
* DPS received both CHL 100's via cerified mail 24 October
* CHL website states still awaiting required submittals 15 November on both CHL 100 apps

If there is any good news, our current CH licenses don't expire until February, 2013.

It took hard copy letters to Gov, Lt. Gov. DPS and State Senator to free up Mrs. Oldgringo's license on the 160th day after her original submittal. Surely, we won't have to go through that again? We're gittin' too old to have to fool around with this....er, uh...stuff. ITMT, the state has full use of our money....

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with your renewals. I remember Mrs. Oldgringo had issues with her initial license. If I were paranoid, I would think that your are on their list. :headscratch

The thought has crossed my mind. Surely there has been some personnel turnover in the past five years down in the bowels of the DPS building where CHL licenses are processed ?
On the CH licensing page, you are asked to contact Customer Service  if you have any questions. Well, on their form :rules: there is a *required* space for your telephone number. Since contacting Customer Service with their e-form, I've been getting about a half dozen robocalls per day and night. Do you reckon.... :confused5

The Annoyed Man wrote:Just an update.... the DPS website noted that the background check showed as completed on Monday night, and it shows today that my license has "mailed." I'm assuming that I'll have it in hand in the next week or so. What a PIA, but I have only myself to blame. Y'all can bet that I'll pursue it more assiduously the next renewal than I did for this one. So to recap for anyone else who is about to have their first renewal:
  • Took renewal class late May/early June 2012 with Crossfire Training.
  • Waited until mid-September to mail in paperwork, and lost my CHL-100 somewhere along the way.
  • September 15, rush back to Crossfire and obtain a new printout of CHL-100, and send in with other stuff to DPS by registered mail that same day.
  • October 5, my CHL expires. (Thank goodness for Utah CFP.)
  • October 5, receive letter from DPS telling me to sign the stupid CHL-100 and send it back to them.
  • October 5, sent signed CHL-100 back to DPS via registered mail.
  • November 11, background check completed.
  • November 15, license mailed.....40 days after it expired....
This is a very good model for how NOT to proceed with a CHL renewal. I offer it up for all y'alls instruction and edification.
FINALLY! License received in today's mail, 8 days after the website said "Mailed."

Finally! Did you have a Utah backup? Or were you unarmed all of this time?

I have a Utah CFP which doesn't expire until June 22, 2014. I deliberately timed acquiring it so that there would be a lot of overlap between its expiration and my CHL expiration.

Renewals only require the training form signed by the instructor, completed renewal form and of course pay the fee. Fingerprints and photos are not required since they should be able to use what they have in file. As to how long it will take, They received my documents back on 11/05 and still does not show in the web site when I try to check the status. Wrote two e-mails and still waiting for answers. Does anyone have an idea how long is taking in average for a renewal?

The website indicates that mine is 'pending manufacturing' as of 21 November. When checking on Mrs. Oldgringo's renewal, which should be same status as mine, this red message comes up in a box:

:headscratch Anybody else ever see this. I think WildBill may know something..... :grumble

Oh well, when the holiday is over next Wednesday,or so, we'll learn more....maybe?

For me, it took about 2 months PLUS the time wasted when they had to mail the CHL-100 form back to me for signature.

You'll ultimately get a form e-mail that announces that 'they' don't consider a renewal issue overdue until 45 days and an initial license issue until after 60 days. This is 'their' way of sayin', "cool your jets".

Thursday was a holiday and Friday was a leave/vacation taking day. Monday and Tuesday will be 'show and tell' days. There may be some processing activity by Wednesday.

Well, both of our renewals, received by DPS on 24 October, went to "Mailed" on 29 November. We live about 4 hours from Austin. We'll see how long they take to get here. Stay tuned.... :smilelol5:

Well, both of 'em came today. Let's see, our CHL's were received by DPS on 24 October and our renewed CHL's were received by us today, 7 December. That looks like about 32 business days - portal to portal. Now take out the office disruption of Holloween and a national election plus three days of real holidays and that ain't too shabby of a turnaround, eh?

I have a question concerning my renewal. Many years ago I was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of attempted murder. It was self defense and the grand jury no billed the charges. When I went through my new CHL process, I had to furnish copies of the court documents showing it was no billed. All was well. Do I have to go through that process again?
