This is a fact. The radicals running web sites like ocdo and similar are not very intelligent. They lash out foolishly because of this. The senate leadership is responsible for the lack of progress with both open carry and campus carry there.
The governor is responsible for himself not putting any pro-gun bills on the call for any of the special sessions.

While OC in OK is not that big of a problem since their signs aren't as restrictive as ours,,,,,,,I think it would be a BIG mistake to have it he in Texas. For those of us that enjoy CC, that would be sharply curtailed as you would see the masses complain so loudly to many businesses that you would see 30.06 sign popping out over night. I don't think that consequence is being thought about enough. For most people, out of sight is out of mind......

Get these people to crawl back under their rocks and OC just might have a chance.

The problem is that doing so won't help.MeMelYup wrote: This will bring it more in line with the United States Constitutions 2nd Amendment. "A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed".
Federal law already trumps state and local, yet we have DC and Chicago...
Re: Why exactly does Texas not have open carry?
I agree it makes no sense if you believe what politicians say instead of watching what they do. The sad fact is we don't have open carry for the same reasons we don't have campus carry. It's easy to talk the talk when they know by making Straus the SoH they'll never have to walk the walk, because he'll make sure liberty dies in a smoke filled back room if he can't guarantee thunderous applause.rp_photo wrote:Given the state's otherwise pro-gun climate and the fact that many more anti states allow open carry (at least in theory), it makes no sense at all that Texas forbids it.

I personally hope we never see open carry here. But that is just my opinion.

It goes back to the 1870's when the white folk feared the newly freed black folk would get guns and get even.....or so I've been told.

It goes back to right after the civil war. The carpet baggers had no other way to control the people of Texas

I have to agree with you txbirddog. I think TX has the best CC system in place out of all the states. To enact OC would pose more problems for CC by way of the 30.06.txbirddog wrote:While OC in OK is not that big of a problem since their signs aren't as restrictive as ours,,,,,,,I think it would be a BIG mistake to have it he in Texas. I think concealment makes a gun much more powerful as a weapon. If a bad guy wants to do harm he's going to shoot you first. But if he does not know who is armed and who isn't then you have a better chance to stop him. Plus you walk around with a $1000 item on your hip making yourself a target for crime. Field of vision is about what 45%? That means at all times your six is vulnerable, is there a bad guy about to take your gun from behind when you open carry? It has happened. Then what are you going to do, pull your holster on him?
Not to mention that OC just makes most people nervous. I'm about as pro-2nd amendment as you can get and carry my G29 wherever I can but if I were a business owner I would not want openly armed people in my store simply because it would drive away business.
OC just makes no sense from any angle.

Re: Why exactly does Texas not have open carry?
After reading more of these threads debating open carry than I can count, I have noticed a couple common denominators. Not one person has ever posted,"I'm against open carry". Many have said they would not do it for one reason or the other but it is always posted that they would not be against it as long as it did not pose a risk to our CC rights.
I have also noticed the one and only concern anyone has ever expressed about changing the law to allow open carry is a concern for this creating less places we can conceal carry.
Do the open carry radicals express any desire to address these concerns? NEVER! Dismissing concerns expressed by others as irrelevant is not the same as addressing them.
There will never be open carry until this changes. Want open carry to be legalized? Start proposing solutions that will address the one and only objection ever expressed by the ONLY people in this state who you might be able to persuade to join your cause.

Re: Why exactly does Texas not have open carry?
Yes I did. My post was actually inspired by the post above mine. My first draft made it more clear but I edited it in an attempt to avoid sounding like I was making it personal. The first couple sentences of my post were actually a lead up to the main point I was trying to make, which I reinserted into the snip you made and highlighted in red.jbarn wrote:Did you read the post directly above yours?03Lightningrocks wrote:After reading more of these threads debating open carry than I can count, I have noticed a couple common denominators. Sorry it created confusion. I had edited out the first few words in the second line of my post and left that line reading completely different than I meant it to. It originally read something like, "you may be the first person I have ever read to actually confess to being against OC" and I was trying to keep the responses from being about that rather than the part I highlighted in red just above.
