i open carry at work in a retention holster and people have still tried to take it. how much retention does your holster have? when you carry, you should always realize that a gun is present. given that, possession of that gun is subject to whomever is stronger and/or better trained. open carry has a prevention measure to it, but your demeanor will be the deciding factor. i prefer to have someone thinking i've got something up my sleeve that they don't know about and my demeanor exhibits that. prevention enough for me.anygunanywhere wrote:Some of the illogical reasoning heard/read regarding firearms and other issues:
"Fannypacks scream guns!"
I have used them when traveling - never had a gun in it. If this was true, then everyone wearing a Hawiian shirt would have a gun.
"Never carry a gun in a purse."
Purse is aceptable way to pack. At least the woman is packing.
"I do not have any NRA stickers on my truck/car/home."
I have NRA stickers on my truck, garage walls, etc. I have stickers on all my doors telling intruders we are armed. Come on in and let's dance. You had better find easier pickings!
"Open carry is dangerous. You are giving away the element of surprise."
Yes, open carry is dangerous. For the bad guys.
"I do not want anyone to know I have guns."
I do. So what if they know. Two things happen. Either they avoid me because I am armed, which is fine, or they warm up to me because I am armed, which is fine too.
NRA stickers, no big deal. police and sheriff stickers, no way. for Christmas one year, every car in the parking lot of the sheriff's office that had a sheriff sticker on it was busted out.
i don't care if someone thinks i have a gun or two. some of my neighbors know what i do, although i sincerely try to keep that private, so obviously guns are going to be around. i don't want anyone knowing i have a whole stash of guns. most people work a minimum of 8 hours a day. that's a long time to tear up a safe and i've seen some good ones torn to pieces.
