Costco sells solar powered motion lights with LED's. I have one for my side yard. Not as bright as a wired halogen, but enough to see someone is there. $60 each, and not too bad if you don't have power running nearby already.

Personally, I don't understand disarming while at home. Once I put it on, it's on until I get into the shower or bed. Why leave yourself guessing where the nearest pistol is - if it's ALWAYS at 3:30, you never have to react with anything but instinct.

...exactly so...and since I sleep in a chair in the living room often as not...that leaves only the shower...if they come upon me in the shower...at least they'll be struck blind...or doubled over with laughter...(and it's on the back of the toidy, under my towel...)

Re: Example of Why We Should Carry at Home...
For me, the reason is simple: my back hurts. Every day. Some days are more or less bearable, but others are truly bad.....and I depend on prescription pain killers nearly every day. So, I tend to disarm at home simply because it removes something that tends to exacerbate the pain. It doesn't seem to matter whether I am carrying IWB or OWB, or which manufacturer's holster I'm wearing. So when I remove the gun and holster, the pain tends to abate fairly quickly because the pressure against my side/back is relieved. This is a non-issue when I am pocket carrying, and often after returning home, I'll swap out a pocket gun for the holstered gun. But, I don't always do it, and I am confident that I can get to my gun if I need to.RHenriksen wrote:Personally, I don't understand disarming while at home. Re: Example of Why We Should Carry at Home...
Sorry you have to deal with an aching back, Annoyed Man. It can sure wear a person down when something just hurts too much for too long.
Someone put forth the idea of a motion activated light down at my barn. I have installed two security lights since that happened and plan on a third. I actually would like a motion sensor behind my barn that set off an audible beep or something if it was tripped. That is the only area someone could approach me from without me seeing him if I was inside. I wonder if the driveway alarms will work...

I want one of these. You can mount it upside down in the eaves...

Well they do make pepper balls. Us lowly civilians just can't buy them.

Why limit it to the eaves? Mount them all along the perimeter as well, but don't arm those until the inner ones go off...TxSheepdog wrote:I want one of these. You can mount it upside down in the eaves...

I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

Oh I agree, but the one mounted to the eaves seems the most vandal resistant, and looks cool.
