Been 5 or 6 years ago. Called for jury duty for Randall County -- in Canyon, Texas Panhandle. Showed my jury card to the lady at the metal detector, she had me and other jurists walk around the metal detectors. No questions about guns, knives, hand gernades. That is the way it should be, I do beleive.

IIRC, Pennsylvania law treats this issue right. A Courthouse is allowed to ban licensees from carrying in the courthouse, but if they ban carrying they must provide a firearm locker. If they do not provide a locker, then they must allow you to carry.

If you want to carry it...drive in...leave it in the car, once you walk in the doors at the courthouse with a CHL carrying you are already in violation...

Section
PC 46.03
Places Weapons Prohibited
...(3) on the premises of any government court or offices utilized by the court, unless pursuant to written regulations or written authorization of the court....
........
It is not a defense to prosecution under this section that the actor possessed a handgun and was licensed to carry a concealed handgun under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code.

So even being on the premises of the courthouse, you are already in violation.

Reasons like that are why I own a Hi Point C9. I got it for under $150 and keep the serial number on hand in case it is taken from my vehicle. I know the gun is reliable and while I don't want a criminal to have it at least I have something.

Thanks for all the input. As much as I abhor the idea of leaving a firearm in my vehicle, I am much more adverse to the idea of driving into downtown Dallas unarmed. I like the idea of a "cheap" concealed carry weapon for such occasions. Might just have to go that route!
