SURPRISE! 30.06 sign

#1

Post by LAYGO »

So, at my current place of employment, it is attached to a hotel of "Paris" persuasion. I was parking in a spot that was covered with all these storms & took a different parking garage elevator than normal to try & stay dry via the underground connection. As I got off the elevator, it did NOT connect where I thought it did & I was in the hotels parking garage entrance (carpeted, A/C) vs ground floor of the actual parking garage (open). I was about to walk thru the only door leading to the building when I noticed a 30.06 sign. Crap, turned around went back up a floor & walked in the now subsiding rain. Wasn't that bad.

So, today, I just needed a post lunch pick me up & I was informed of a lil convenience store, but a full building over. I walk over there & it cuts thru the hotel lobby for about 200yds. On my way back to my office, I notice the doors on both my left/right are posted 30.06 (doors I've never ever used), but the door (first time ever using) I walked thru that connects my office building to the lobby is NOT posted.

I didn't put 2 & 2 together until after noticing the signs. Geez. They are not very noticeable either. White letters on glass with nothing behind them.

I checked, it wasn't posted, so I figured I would add it. I wasn't registered there . . . until now. Thanks for the reminder.

White letters on glass? Acceptable?
It's fine if you disagree. I can't force you to be correct.

I don't know if the white letters on glass would pass legal muster but almost every hospital or medical building that is posted seems to have this arrangement. Depending on the light on either side of the glass, the letters either seem to stand out fairly well or completely blend into the background. Rarely is the 30.06 wording there alone. There other text about not smoking or about the facility.

Since I understand that Baylor and Harris Methodist systemically put up 30.06 sign, I assume that every building even remotely associated with them is posted. I recently walking into a medical building with no printing on the glass and was surprised. I shouldn't have been. The 30.06 sign was prominently displayed in the hallway with larger than required letters.

The only hotels I have ever seen posted 30.06 have been Doubletree and Hampton Inn. Both are owned by a chain of "Paris" persuasion.

I was surprised to find that the Granite Park Hilton was posted 30.06.

This hotel is at 5805 Granite Parkway in Plano, near the intersection
of Parkwood Blvd, and Texas 121, aka the SRT (Sam Rayburn Tollway.)

I don't ever consider Hilton's in my travel plans. Marriott brands all the way. Never have seen a Marriott branded hotel posted in any shape, form or fashion anywhere, inside and outside of Texas.

For whatever reason, I've never seen a Hilton Garden Inn or Embassy Suites (also in the family) with a 30.06 sign.

I've stayed in many Hampton Inns in many states and have never seen any posting except for the sign Tennessee requires to be posted in locations that serve alcohol. I'm surprised that TX Hamptons are gun free zones.

The Hilton Anatole has engraved 30.06 signs on every single entrance to the place.

I love that they engraved them. Meaningless come Jan 1.
