Carrying in a building shared with a college?
Hello all, I am new to the forum and had a question for your depth of knowledge. I work in a large office building that is shared with a college, what are the laws regarding concealed carry into my work with there being a college in the same building?

Welcome to the forum. If the college rents a portion of the building and is self contained then you shouldn't have an issue. If the building is owned by the college and your business is renting space from them - different animal. IANAL.

Re: Carrying in a building shared with a college?
Thank you for the quick reply! I believe the building is owned by a seperate company and every business inside of it is leasing its own space. I didn't know the legality of this, when I asked my HR rep I was told no I can't carry since there is a college. I don't believe this to be true from my research. I just wanted to see some others opinions and maybe if there is a CHL instructor or lawyer here who can give a definitive answer that would be great!

Never ask HR. Now that HR has verbally told you that you can not carry (doesn't matter if they are right about the college thing or not) you can not legally carry at work.

I guess I should rephrase my previous post. In the handbook it states no weapons allowed unless under special circumstances. I was curious so i asked what the special circumstances portion ment and hr said it doesn't apply in our new office since there is a college in the same building..

If it's in the company handbook, you may not be breaking the law, but you would be violating a company rule, and subject to summary dismissal.

As for the college portion, if the building is not owned by the university, as stated, only the portion that is a school would be off limits.
As for company handbook, if it just has the generic 'firearms forbidden' statement, then you are only breaking company policy and can be fired. To be illegal for trespass it would have to be written in the form of the language per Texas Penal Code 30.06 http://law.onecle.com/texas/penal/30.06.00.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
