As someone that lives in an Open Carry state, I can tell y'all that most of the worries CHLers have about Open Carry are pretty much non-events. Nobody grabs an OC'er's gun. Nobody draws down on an OC'er. The cops might get called, but that's fairly rare, and even if you're somewhere that open carry is technically disallowed (places serving alcohol, etc), most cops will just give you a "you might wanna take that outside, because it's technically illegal in here" lecture.

I have my concealed-carry license for politeness' sake, and because sometimes I want to throw a jacket on. But it's real nice to not have to worry about "unconcealed firearms."

Thanks! I lived in AZ a while back and open carry was pretty prevalent, but nobody carried concealed. I understand that's changed now, but I've never lived in a state where both are allowed. Gonna get interesting when it happens.

Just curious. If you can't see concealed weapons, how do you know nobody carried concealed?

When I lived there, you could open carry without a permit but concealed required one. So nobody I knew or was aware of bothered with carrying concealed. Clear?

I guess appendix carry or a shoulder holster would put the handgun in a position where it would be difficult for someone behind you to get

Well, AZ still issues CHLs, but they no longer require them even for concealed-carry; I think they just keep that program around for reciprocity in other states. I'd love to see Texas go the same route, with "Constitutional-carry," but still issuing the licenses for reciprocity's sake. Heck, I want that for New Mexico, too.

From personal observation, OC in Arizona is more common now than it was just a few years ago. While they are few and far between in the Phoenix or Tucson metro areas, my sightings of OCers over a 6 week period this summer in small city and rural areas numbered in the hundreds. Williams, Flagstaff, Sedona, Prescott, Apache Jct., Payson, Show Low, Springerville/Eagar, Safford all had some.
Surprisingly, or maybe not, OC was more prevalent the further away from the International Border we were. I had the most sightings in Apache Junction!
A.J. is the jump off point for exploration of the Apache Trail, the Superstition Mountains and searches for the Lost Dutchman Mine as well as being the low cost alternative to the Sun City lifestyle for transient(Snow Birds) and permanent resident retirees. The retiree community is huge! There were lottsa grizzled old guys, like me, with SAA's or clones in public spaces.

When I visited Arizona, only cops and criminals carried concealed guns. The rest of us weren't allowed to conceal. Thank goodness that changed and good guys in Arizona now have the option. It will be nice when good guys in Texas get the option.

Absolutely not!! At a minimum of 6" diameter, those generic signs are larger than the typical 2"X2" "no gun" decals we saw in Texas, but not nearly as large as a compliant 30.06 sign.
