I'd mind my own business. I'm not much for trying to police or advise others as I don't appreciate them doing it to me.

But you're responsible and careful enough to not be "that guy".
Sometimes, when "that guy" can cause trouble for your cause, it's worth being polite and discrete and lending a hand.

Who says this guy is a law abiding, CHL carrying individual? Maybe he's just nuts. I think it's best to stick to buying your coffee and minding your own business.

Maybe he's making a point? Since Starbucks put out that statement saying they'd prefer the guns be left outside their stores maybe he's purposely rubbing it in their face?

I probably would strike up a normal conversation with him if possible so I could feel out his level of crazy. If he seems off then I'll find a new Starbucks and if he seems fine I might point out the bulge on his hip.

I see this guy two or three times a week at a Starbucks near downtown Houston. He generally is wearing light colored polo shirts that are too tight to conceal under. Plus, it is clear from the graphic outline that he is carrying a fill sized pistol, OWB...there is nothing to be left to the imagination. I can clearly see the outline of a pistol and a kydex holster. Plus he fidgets with it all the time. Clearly doesn't have a good gun belt because the whole setup droops considerably. Would you say something to him and "help him out", or just keep your distance...There are cops in the Starbucks from time to time, and I am waiting for a day when one gets in line behind him...

I might strike up a conversation with him if we were next to each other in line. Not about guns or anything, just friendly small talk. If he seems sane enough after a few of those, I might mention something if the opportunity for a discreet conversation presents itself... maybe... Kinda depends on if I'm the only one who's noticed, too.

"hey guy, I see you're a regular in here... I'm here 3 days a week myself.... I thought you might want to know that your gun is clearly showing through your shirt. If you'd like a few tips on how to avoid that, I might be able to help."

I went out for dinner last night a noticed a guy wearing a hat and asked him about it.

We struck up a good conversation and I got a little history lesson.

When he left he said "It was really nice talking to you."

I'd yell "he has a gun, he has a gun" as I prone him out. I'm sure the local PD would appreciate my up front work for them.




Seriously though, I think Giga04 said it best.

I'd make no more comment about someone else's concealed pistol in public than I would about their wife's appearance. I'd recommend staying in your lane.

Anybody carrying in that fashion is likely legal carrying under other (LE) credentials or oblivious and the type that doesn't appreciate 'help'.

Now if it were a windy day and someone's Hawaiian shirt looked like it had blown up over the pistol grip, I might (or might not) say "hey it looks like the wind blew your shirt up over your hardware, thought you might want to know".

Every time this topic comes up I get a kick out of the responses.

There is the MYOB crowd and the "nobody notices anyway" group and the people who are trying to be helpful people.

I think I fall into the "trying to be helpful" group.

It seems that some people's attitude may be different just because the observation involves a concealed or not-so-concealed handgun.

One on the things I like about Texas is that the people are more friendly that in many parts of the country.

I wouldn't make a special effort to approach a person I saw at a distance or who I didn't have any reason to contact.

Some people in Texas will start up a conversation while standing in line at a bank or in the store.

In such a situation such as standing in line or engaging a person in a similar situation I would react differently that approaching a stranger.

My reaction would be the same as if the person had his fly unzipped, a long string of toilet paper trailing from his shoe, or a booger hanging from his nose.

Personally, I would appreciate being told.

Maybe I am way out of line, but I have made compliments about the appearance of another man's wife.

There's a difference if he accidentally had his gun uncovered and if he obviously wasn't trying very hard to conceal it. If it was obvious his shirt blew up and the gun was uncovered without him being aware, I would probably tell him.

Guess I come down to whether it's making him aware or trying to correct behavior. The later, I would mind my own business.

Thanks for all the comments...gives me something to think about. I was (and still am) leaning to the "just ignore it" side of things, but I guess if we somehow ended up in a chat, and if one thing lead to another, I might inquire about the bulge and see where it goes from there...but, I will probably just shake my head whenever I see him and think "what a yahoo".
