IKEA hell

#1

Post by Scott B. »

I know it's been mentioned before, but IKEA is lower circle of Hades. Was forced to enter the one in Houston today.

The 30.06 web site is not mobile friendly, so I gave up checking if it was a go/no go from the parking lot. From memory, I was about 98% sure I couldn't carry there. But, my initial approach looked okay. See picture.

If I hadn't stopped, backed out of the entrance and gone to the other side I never would have spotted the damn 30.06 sign. That ticks me off almost as much as being in IKEA . Managed to escape the rat maze and they didn't get any of my money.

Grumble. :nono:

When someone tells me they do not want my money, I am quite willing to withhold it.

If you were forced into one, how did you manage to escape without surrendering any $$?

I had to spend a couple of days at ST David's Hospital in Austin last week. My son said it was posted so no carry. We went in the surgery entrance so no sign.
When we went out the main interance through the turnstyle revolving door (Probably 10ft wide) no visible sign.
No the side of the WIDE revolving door was a regular hinge door. Sign was on it.
Problem!!! It was proped open so the sign was impossible to see.
Letters 3/4 inch by measure later.
I will be so glad when there is a fine for non-compliant signs.

I'm not too concerned about a non-compliant sign unless the business tries to enforce it and the police department also tries to enforce it. Then I think there should be some penalty for doing that and costing an innocent person to pay to remain out of jail for not committing a crime.

I agree with fining government entities that post in violation of the law.

I do not agree with fining private businesses for posting a non-compliant sign for two reasons. First, if there is a fine involved, that will incent corporate counsel to ensure non-compliant signs are removed and replaced by compliant signs. Thus removing a potential defense to prosecution.

Law of unintended consequences.

I say make them post the compliant signs, and include a definition of "clearly visible to the public" that keeps them from: A, just posting one sign when there are multiple entrances; and B, posting the sign in such a way that it is not readily visible from all approaches to a particular entrance.

Either way, I don't see any unintended consequences.

I've been dragged to the Houston IKEA twice in the last couple of months and never saw that sign!

Executive decision...aided by the deliberately horrific layout of the place

It's compliant from the other approach, isn't a that a fun a feeling?

As others have stated - if they don't want my CHL, they don't want me, and I'm perfectly willing to abide by that arrangement. If unable to avoid entry, I want to know about their policy without having to scan every obscure door and window placement.

The thread about the Levelland man getting 'busted' for a gun buster sign makes an impression. ( http://texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=74571" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) A poorly placed or printed 30.06 sign isn't going to be much of defense if a clearly unenforceable sign can achieve that.

Edit: spelling

That sign is new.

I've been to that IKEA many times in the past, looked up and down for a 30.06, saw their generic gunbuster sign, and walked past it. The location that sign is in was empty just a few weeks ago.

I can honestly say, this is probably a direct result of OCT's shenanigans. I've been going to that IKEA for years now, and they JUST NOW decide to put one up?
It's not coincidence.

I'm completely angry at OCT now, as I USED to be able to legally carry in this location, and now cannot most likely because of their news coverage. People say that public demonstrations won't cause this sort of thing, well here's one example of it happening.

Would that sign stop an OCT carry? I think business that put up a 30.06 don't want any guns. Blame the business for this one.

Correlation does not equal causation. Unless and until IKEA announces that OCT's antics caused them to put up the sign, it could as well be my letter to them (corporate) stating why I don't shop there any more.
