With Arizona don't need to apply in person. Copy of your Texas chl is proof of competency. I sent that along with copy of my chl-100 and dDD-214 and retired ID just to be sure . No personnel checks though. Money order or cashier checks

Welp. The state sent me a letter asking me to produce a DD-214. Strange, because I uploaded a PDF copy of it to them when I applied. I got the letter on the day my license expired. So I sent a copy to them through snail mail the next day. (9/14/2014). Now here we are on October 3, and still no license. So I called to ask about the status, because you can no longer check the status online. (The state is apparently reverting to the pre-internet days.) I am told my application is "proceeding" and they should be mailing my license out in "two weeks or so". Geez. Do they have to send them to Borneo for printing? This is ridiculous. I applied for renewal one month before the expiration date. I already had a license, so renewing it should be as simple as a quick background check and print. I followed their instructions precisely, including uploading my DD-214. If the state was a company, I would no longer do business with them. I'd find somebody who was more customer oriented. Nothing hurts customer service more than a monopoly. A renewal shouldn't take more than a week to get in the mail - two weeks max.

I don't understand why they need ANOTHER copy of your DD 214 on a renewal. I just did a "change of address" a couple of months ago and they automatically added "veteran" to my new one without me requesting it. ( I'm glad they did ), but if they know I'm a qualified veteran on that, why don't they know it on a renewal??? You are not going to lose your veteran's status overnight are you?

I can't answer that. I also can't tell you why the pdf copy I uploaded was insufficient to satisfy their requirements. Who knows what goes on in a state agency?

I just renewed my DL online and didn't have to send in my DD214 again. In fact, because I'm more than 50% disabled, I didn't have to send in proof of disability again and that is something that can change. Total cost $Free.99 God Bless Texas!

I had to go in to the DPS to change the address on my DL because I have a CDL. I took a copy of DD 214 just in case. They said they didn't need to see it because it was already in the system. This goes back to my original question, if it is already in the system with the CHL (DPS), why do you have to resend it on a renewal? Baldeagle, my original question wasn't actually directed at you, it was more of a rhetorical one, but I understand your frustration.

On my last renewal I did the online renewal and uploaded my DD-214 as well and thought I was good to go, waiting patiently on my new CHL. Mrs Anygun's went through slick and she got hers in a few weeks.
DPS notified me my DD-214 did not state my service discharge type or conditions. I dug up my paperwork and verified I sent them my DD-1214 and not some other document like the gas bill or something. I resubmitted the documents and circled the information they said was not there. There was no movement on my application and they sent me a letter stating the same thing. I called and called and called and finally got through. The individual I spoke with found my app and we had a frank discussion on the ins and outs of DD-214s. He apologized for the screw up and told me he would get cracking on it.
The background check took forever it seemed. My expiration date passed and I went without a license for a bit. I used to have a Virginia, Florida, and Pennsylvania but I let them lapse since I rarely travel anymore.
I feel your pain, Bro.
