What about brass?

Those of you who are instructors, how do you handle brass?

Do you let the folks collect their brass at the end of the shoot? Do you consider it lost brass?
Do you leave it for a donation to the club?

my thoughts exactly -- especially when into reloading -- when i wasnt no big deal but different now -- i have never been anywhere they wouldnt let you collect your own brass shot

I shoot revolvers a lot .... is that indoor range going to frisk me and confiscate my brass when I try to leave with it?

I thought most ranges took the view that all brass belongs to the range, unless you brought it. I.e., police and keep your spent brass if you wish. When you leave w/o it, it becomes theirs.

I allow them to pick up theirs. I keep the rest. I don't get too picky if they pick up their neighbor's. Most just leave it.

its the only indoor range where I live plus I don't reload

I've shot at one range where the floor was grating so the brass would fall through. IIRC there was a drop off right in front of booth with a clean out. Been a few years so a little hazy on that point.

Do remember seeing someone with a small tarp they laid down before shooting.

I'm about to have folks shooting at our new outdoor range on property we just bought. My plan is to have the shooting area cleared down to dirt (for now, with concrete going in the future).

The current plan is that I'll ask everyone to police their own brass, and whatever's not claimed or given away to another shooter will go into a common collection barrel. Later, collection, sorting, and further disposition as needed.

I bought a bunch of Berdan primed 9mm back when is was dirt cheap. I take that if I'm going to a range that won't let me recover my brass.

Out here in the desert where we practice there is tons of brass laying around. Anything you can imagine. People shoot out in the desert because it's free and open any time unlike the ranges( there's two or three for the public). There's some good spots with good backstops where people go and leave all their brass there. My neighbor who reloads will drive out once in a while (older gentlemen) and comes back with whatever he needs.

I have my students pick up all the brass once we are finished. They can keep theirs if they want to and I take the rest of it home, I hope to get into reloading soon.

Our range has a policy of everyone picking up after themselves, with the exception of anything that falls beyond the firing line. Students can keep it if desired or chunk it in a 5-gallon bucket.
