Renewal question

I just received my letter in the mail for my CHL renewal, and I went through their online process and it had me print out a checklist.

My checklist has the following two items listed as required:

• The checklist itself
• TxDPS will attempt to use the passport photo and fingerprints on file.

Should I just mail the checklist to TxDPS tomorrow? Or should I wait and see (via the online status) if my passport photo and fingerprints are good? I literally just did the online application about 15 minutes ago, so I know I'll have to wait for 48 hours for the online status to appear. I might add that it doesn't expire until September, so I have plenty of time. Regardless, I don't want to hold anything up by sitting on the checklist. It seems silly to mail a checklist when there's nothing really on the checklist, however the process does seem a bit smoother.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

thats all you have to do no need to send anything in -- if they end up needing new prints they will inform you

I suggest that you review the MULTIPLE changes to the laws that you will not be exposed to because no class is required. It is up to you now to keep yourself informed on the changes that occur.

Yep, I follow Second Amendment issues pretty closely, including the changes to Texas CHL laws.

Reading this forum will keep a person more informed than a renewal class could ever hope to.

My son got his in about three weeks. I renewed yesterday and emailed the checklist. My current license expires in August.

It says on the checklist "Email or Mail this page with ALL of the items listed below." The first item on the list says "this page or your confirmation email containing the transaction barcode." I took that to mean that you had to send in the page with the barcode even though no other items are required.

So, I saved the checklist they emailed as a pdf and emailed it back. This is the response I got today:

We have received the documents attached to your email. This information will be forwarded to a CHL Specialist for review and processing. BTW, wasn't easy to figure out how to email it....my son didn't see it and mailed his checklist in.

I agree that it's a little confusing about what to do with the checklist, if there is nothing on the checklist other than the checklist.

I will email my checklist in as well. It can't hurt anything, and email is cheaper than wasting a stamp.

It's my understanding that emailing the checklist is not required but does speed up the process. I was told at some point that DPS uses a third party to process payments. The barcode on the checklist tells DPS that you payed the fee. If you don't send it in, DPS will not start processing the application until they receive payment confirmation from the party handling the fee transaction.

I emailed the checklist on Wednesday and got this response today:

Your CHL renewal application has been received and we do not require any more documentation at this time.

Got my new plastic in the mail Thursday. That is seventeen days from doing the renewal online to getting it in my mailbox. I did not send in the checklist with the barcode.

Got a letter from DPS saying my prints "could not be processed or were rejected by the FBI." Was in for a rude awakening when I made an appointment to be printed. The place I'd used locally for my PE fingerprints has since closed and the closest location for printing is now about 1.5 hours away. The CHL printing was $9.95, the company and process were the same as used for my PE, but the PE prints cost $42. Hmmmmmmm.......
