.40 has always been my goto and is again now that the XDs 45 is out of the rotation.TrackinPat wrote:.40 all day! :)
I would however like to get a 9mm and a .45 as alternate carries some day.

Why does everyone like Gold Dot so much? I'm not bashing it, I genuinely don't know.SpringerFan wrote:XDSC9, stuffed with 14 rounds of +p Gold Dot goodness.

Unlike some 'premium' JHPs, these are available (well, not right now, but someday again) as reloading components, so in theory those of us who reload can duplicate the factory loads for a cheaper practice load.

45ACP because shooting twice is just silly.

I really want to get into reloading, I have a few books on it but it is so darn complicated to just READ, I am a visual learner so I need to see it done many times to grasp, theory is great, but practice makes perfect.ghostrider wrote:good reputation. I"m always curious and usually don't get an answer, what is the point of a poll like this? I'd bet 90% of us could have told you the top 3, in order, but it seems somewhat irrelevant.

Lots of time on our hands? Granted, yes, everyone could've said 9, 40, and 45 would be the top 3 but it certainly is interesting to see what ELSE is out there being carried.. seeing .32's and .357's is nice, hell I saw a 10mm! I like seeing those less common carry calibers from time to time!JKTex wrote:I"m always curious and usually don't get an answer, what is the point of a poll like this? Re: Poll: What Caliber Do You Carry?
Well, let me tell you why I posted it; I don't want you to go unanswered. I knew, as you suggested, what the top three would be. I was mostly interested in seeing how much of the other stuff people were carrying, and hoping to have some novel "other" calibers listed in the comments. I also wanted to get more solid data on the relative use of 9mm/40/45, rather than going on a hunch. I was somewhat surprised, as were others, at the extent to which 9mm is carried. I was also very surprised at the dearth of revolver cartridges.JKTex wrote:I"m always curious and usually don't get an answer, what is the point of a poll like this? So there you have it. Irrelevant? Maybe. But I am happy to have learned that at least one of us packs .44 magnum, which I wouldn't have known otherwise.

It really isn't that complicated. I started 50 years ago with shotgun and within 6 months was doing pistol and rifle as well. It a form of relaxation to me along with the means to shoot more!! There are several good starter kits available to chose from. You can invest in one of them and go from there.

It does sound relaxing, I enjoy cleaning my firearms so why not make my own rounds? I figure I will ask my girlfriend for Christmas to get me one.

Give it a try Trakinpat. Ya never know, she might like it and then you might have a shooting partner. Years ago in my younger days, I did just that. As time progressed, she took up shotguns and had a blast at it. Many times when I was out of town and returned, she would have loaded several buckets of 12 gauge AA's for me. Those were the days!!
