Travis County (Austin) Apprasal district has a sign that is almost a 3006 sign but the wording is not completely right

East Texas gun shows that are held in city owned buildings are posted during the show. The Modd Cobb convention building in Longview and the Harvey Hall convention center in Tyler are both posted during the gun show.

Austin gun shows in Cedar Park Texas are correctly posted on city owned buildings.
Querying the LEOs at that location, they indicated that they wouldn't arrest on the issue.

Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?
How does one file a complaint against a City for improper 30.06 postings?
I live in a small town that has a PD with the front door posted 30.06. As far as I am aware there is the PD dispatch and records/PD offices at this location. Also City hall is also posted with the 30.06. The two buildings are separate. There is a room for council meetings and the utilities department.
For what the law states that they cannot post it off limits, unless, there is voting going on or a council meeting is actually in progress.
Am I wrong?
Has the Texas AG addressed this in an opinion? Can I as a private citizen with a CHL ask for such an opinion?

Small town? Know anyone one the city council? Or go to a city council meeting and bring to their attention. The city attorney will likely be at the meeting.

Take a copy/ copies of the law with exemption highlighted. Hand them to council and city attorney.airbornecpa wrote:Small town? Know anyone one the city council? Or go to a city council meeting and bring to there attention. The city attorney will likely be at the meeting.

Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?
I've been out of the state/country for 13 years and I'm still brushing up on all my TX CC rules/laws. However, the city recreation center here in Harker Heights has posted the 30.06 sign. Harker Heights is a suburb in vicinity of Fort Hood. The City Hall and public library do not have the 30.06 sign. My two oldest children take fencing lessons there at the rec center. When I asked why the sign was posted, the response was that one of the employee's boyfriends had threatened her. Makes no sense. If there is an example letter out there that would help me write the city counsel then I would greatly appreciate it if someone would post it or point me in the right direction.
Thanks,

Just outside Waco, the Carleen Bright Arboretum in Woodway (a beautiful arboretum, by the way) is on city property, and they recently posted a 30.06 sign on the welcome board that you drive past upon entering.
Below is what I sent to the manager of the arboretum. She did reply and said she'd pass along the information.

In the Texas Penal Code, 30.06 (the very section that prescribes
the method of the posting of these signs) it says under
subsection (e):
"(e) It is an exception to the application of this section
that the property on which the license holder carries a handgun
is owned or leased by a governmental entity and is not a premises
or other place on which the license holder is prohibited from
carrying the handgun under Section 46.03 or 46.035."
In other words, if it's government property and carry is not
prohibited for another reason (such as being a bar or a
courthouse, etc) then the 30.06 sign is unenforceable.
This does not mean the sign at the arboretum is illegal or
otherwise unlawful. But it does mean that it is completely
un-necessary and unenforceable.

Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?
HB508 would have stopped these blatant attempts to intimidate Texans by creating a $10,500 a day per sign fine for governmental entities and agencies posting unenforceable 30.06 signs. Thanks to Sen. Dan Patrick, we don't have that bill and now he wants to be Lt. Governor and control legislation that gets to the floor in the Senate.

And that's why I am supporting Jerry Patterson for Lt. Governor. Abbott and Patterson, it doesn't get better than that for true 2nd Amendment support!Charles L. City of West University Place, TX has a 30.06 sign on their Rec Center on Bellaire Blvd and West Point St. Wording appears correct, but it is very difficult to read, and photograph, since it is not on a contrasting background.

An invalid sign is no more or less invalid because of wrong contrast, letter size, wording etc. It's just plain invalid from the git go.karlac wrote:City of West University Place, TX has a 30.06 sign on their Rec Center on Bellaire Blvd and West Point St. Wording appears correct, but it is very difficult to read, and photograph, since it is not on a contrasting background.
