Hrm.. Looking further into my Benchmade, I found that it was an early version of the 9050 afo. Called the 9000s. Has Bali Song on the benchmade logo. About over a decade old. Interesting..

Are front opening automatics better, quicker, faster, stronger that side opening or just the other way around or are they both about the same regarding such?

I have a Sog-Tac automatic on its way from BladeHQ. They didn't require anything stating that I am leo/mil, and shipped it USPS Priority. I intend on carrying it while at work. Why?.... because I can If the line of work I'm in reasonably allowed me to carry a firearm, I would do so. But it doesn't,so a good knife is better than nothing.

Well, I've done a bit of research on "automatic" knives as knife sellers prefer to call them.

According to the knife sellers I spoke with, if one has a CHL in Texas, one can carry a double edged auto knife as of Sept 1st. No CHL - no double edged for you. Why we get this perk is unknown to me...?

Benchmade knives are far less costly on the internet than buying from a Texas brick and mortar store dealer, at least as far as I've researched, but auto knives have to be purchased in Texas - No out of state purchases for auto knives according to Federal law. Arrrggghhh.

One of the Benchmade models I'm interested in cost $195.00 at a Houston dealer - Same knife on the internet: $136.00

From reading H.B. No. 1862 I see no mention of needing to have a CHL.

You won't need a CHL for carrying an automatic knife, it is the double edged knife I would be very careful with. Some think that a CHL allows one to carry an illegal knife such as a dagger. I do not think it does but that is a discussion for another thread. Be very careful about following that advice.

Yeah, daggers are still illegal. Chl or not. Regardless, I'd do research before actually doing anything. Regardless if a knife seller told you it was ok.

Yep, no mention of the dagger restriction changing in the new legislation. Also, you need to watch out for cities with their own restrictions against automatic knives. Ive been told that San Antonio has laws restricting them, though I haven't looked into it any further.
