Any golfers out there?

What's the SOP for a CHL holder who likes to golf, even if only occasionaly? I figure carrying would be rather tough considering all the beding over, sweating, movement, etc. I was considering just carrying in my bag or the cart.

Thoughts?

Years ago, before CHL existed in Texas, I was playing in a tournament on a course that was in a rough part of town. There had been golfers held up before on the course.

When we got on the back nine we were discussing the area and learned that 3 out of the four of us were packing more than just clubs in the bags.

A good ankle holster might be a possible choice.

The way I play its dangerous just being anywhere close to me. Those big white bullets hurt.

That made for a good laugh eagleeye. About 2 months ago I was car jacked and shot through the hand, causing me to lose the left middle finger. The last 50-60 days have been rough, but on Friday I'm going to get back in the saddle via golf. It's one of the three major things I've been dying to do, and I just last week got back to the shooting range and my guitar. I wonder if this will effect my "handicap"... Oh geez, that was too easy.

I make no apologies for my opinion of golf, it's flog spelled backward, and Mark Twain, IMHO, opined that it was a good walk wasted.

That aside, be wary of carrying concealed off your body, briefcases, gym bags, and other such things lead to forgotten guns that have a tendency to get people in trouble. In my time with TSA, I found three different undeclared, improperly packed (ie not in a locked hard case), handguns in golf bags. Two were loaded, one I found on an x-ray and another I found while doing a manual search and I actually had it in my hand as I realized what it was.

All three maintained that they merely forgot that they had them there, one had actually flown up from Houston that day, and the gun had been missed on the flight up. Only one of the three had a CHL. All were at least interviewed by Dallas Police Love Field Unit, two were arrested.

So, I would heartily recommend that if you must waste your time playing golf

you fins a way to either pack on your body, or set an alarm on your computer, PDA, or cell phone, to remind yourself to disarm your galf bag.

Funny you mention this....

I play golf as much as I can... Granted its not very good golf but I like the outdoors and I have lots of golf balls to loose....

Anyway, I always carry in my bag when I am at the course. One of the courses here in town backs up to the projects. LT can tell you this part of town is not the best. I have a pocket on my bag that can fit a medium sized towel then my XD inside so its does get bumped around.

PLUS... if a golf ball is acting up I can threaten it in to straighting up!

Wow... Those are the types of people that forget they have kids in their back seat when they leave the house for work.

I have gotten to the point where my handgun is like my wallet or my Hackberry... I fell naked without it... Granted I do not get to carry 24/7 but its very close if I need it.

I used to play at it (very humbling game).Two shoulder surgeries and one back surgery later I can no longer swing a club.

I would carry in either ankle holster or pocket carry in back pocket

funny, the primary reason I got my CHL was to play golf at my old club (rough part of town in Houston)

Except for the summer, I walk and carry my clubs. I play about 120 rounds a year. The Kahr P9 fit nicely in the front pocket of my Izzo Spirit golf bag.

I haven't played golf since...yesterday. I tried playing once with a G26 in smartcarry...not unbearable, but not very comfortable either. I usually leave my gun locked in my vehicle, but I have been to some courses like some of the other posters described where I felt it was necessary to carry in my golf bag.

Thanks for the ideas. I fear I may have to go against most reccomendations, however and carry in my bag. I don't even like to have keys in my pocket when I golf, so I'm not sure how I thought the gun would fly...

I just returned from a short trip to Cabo and decided to start playing golf again. It had been three years since I played last and I made just enough good shots while there to get sucked back in.

While I was an avid golfer at one time, I am a new CHL and never thought about it until yesterday.

I have decided to carry in my bag since I'd rather have it with me then in my car. I think that it is very unlikely that I will need my firearm on the course, but I will feel better if it is in my control. Besides the thought of holstering a weapon that has been sitting in 140 degree plus heat for 3 or so hours does not sound appealing. IMHO

Actually l just got finished playing 21 holes at Pecan Trails at midlotihan. I don't carry when I golf, but then again I don't feel the need to carry on a golf course. I have 14 clubs to choose from along with a driver. I also don't play golf in the bad part of town.

Not to be a Smarty but.... The Students at VT didn't goto school in a bad part of town either...

I play.....I would carry my Pistol in my bag but I dont have any room. All the pockets are full of extra balls that I sacrifice to the Water Gods

Seriously though, I leave it in my truck while I play
