Texas State Fair 2012

Well, no muss no fuss getting in. I asked the wander to see the supervisor and she pointed her out to me. I showed my license and she, quietly, led me to the LEO. He looked at my DL and CHL and said, "Have a nice day." Easy breezy!

I was a little worried that they would try to document some of my personal information, but no. I hope everyone else's TSF experience this year goes as smoothly as mine did today.

BTW, for anyone looking for that new Dodge Long-Hauler truck, it's not there. I was really looking forward to seeing that thing in person.

I've had good experiences w/CHL at the State Fair.

One time the officer reminded me a game was in progress at the Cotton Bowl. Useful information and tactfully delivered: well played, sir.

Does that mean you can use any public entrance?

I'd heard there was a single designated CHL entrance in the past, but that may not have been correct.

Any public entrance is good. They will have an officer check your DL and CHL and that's it. Don't let one of those Platinum Security folks try and document any of your information. They didn't ask me, but I thought they were going to try. And, hopefully, the screener won't holler out to their supervisor "Hey, we got a gun over here." Just politely tell the screener that you need to see the supervisor and show them your CHL, but don't hand it to them. They will then take you to the LEO, who you will hand both.

Yeah, a little different than what we had a couple years ago, isn't it? :tiphat:

Good to know. Wifey and I are planning to go Monday. Prolly take the train down there. I know they've beefed up security on the DART Rail, but a little extra peace of mind never hurts...
Thanks for the report :tiphat:

Went well for me too. The security lady asked if I had any concealed weapons, but in a low tone so no others could hear, and politely ushered me to the officer. The officer studied my Utah CHL for a minute (because I just moved here and am taking the class for a Texas CHL next week) and my Texas DL, asked if everything was "squared away with Utah", explained my situation and he said to have a nice day. It was a great day with the family.

We are visiting from Kansas and went to the fair Sunday. My experience was much like the others. The lady who was wanding, directed me to a DPD officer at the gate. He looked over my KS DL and CHL, asked me to turn around, then asked if I was carrying. I replied "yes" and he said "good, you've got it concealed, have a nice day". We did.

This is our first year doing the Fair with a baby. He's 8 months old so he's not going to get much out of it, nor are we going to really be up for doing any rides, and we don't want to fight crowds. So any tips on a good day to go where it won't be that crowded? I was thinking of taking a day off work to do it. Just so we can relax there a bit and not feel rushed or crowded. My father in law (who is not a senior citizen) usually goes on Senior's Day. Says its usually the least crowded and least amount of rude people.

Quick question, as I plan on going to the fair this weekend. Did you verbalize that you were carrying to the person doing the wanding or just instruct that you needed to speak with an officer?
