CHL Online Application and arrests documentation help needed

#1

Post by Metalaxe »

So I've taken my course and passed and now I just need to get finger printed and submit my application. Only issue I am having is that when I was younger 14 or 15 (30ish now) I was arrested twice. Nothing ever came of any of them but anyway I'm doing my online application now and it's asking for date, offense etc.

I noticed in the FAQ and on the paper form it says "I understand that I must submit certified copies of all judgments and charging instruments from the courts or a record search indicating no record was found, for each Criminal History item listed above."

First off, what constitutes a "certified" copy? Also how does this work with submitting an online application? Do you end up having to submit online and then mailing something in? I'm at the online form where it gives you a place to put in information but I do not see anything at this point referencing mailing anything in additional, whereas a paper application requires the 78C form.

Any help would be great guys. It's been hell trying to even get the records of these arrests from 16 years ago. Still don't have them but trying. Who would've thought I would ever have to remember a thing about those events, let alone have documentation since they never went anywhere, no conviction etc.

Anyway thanks again for any help. Glad this place is here! :)

When I was 12 I was "arrested" for vandalism.
When I was 40, I applied for my CHL and thought back to that day.

So i called the county sheriff, county clerk, and all said, since you were 12, it would have been a family court matter, not criminal, I did not list it, as it technically was not "an arrest"
Nothing came up, and I was good to go

So, my question to you, did you really get arrested or was it a family court thing?
If you are unsure, contact the county clerk in the area it happened and ask them for a disposition.
if they can find nothing, it never happened (family court).

Welcome to the forum Metalaxe. :tiphat:

If you were fingerprinted and photographed on those events, then you need to list them. Contact the court clerk where you were arrested and get a copy of the disposition from them. If they say there is nothing on record, ask if they will send you a letter stating there is no record and send it along. If they won't give you something, then send a letter to DPS with your packet stating you contacted the county and court where the event occurred and they stated there was nothing on record.

I called the court and they referred me to the police station records keeper who never seems to be around and doesn't call me back. I'm sure I'll get it eventually though. I really don't remember details except that it was to teach me a lesson. Thanks for the info.

Thanks man, glad to be here! ;-)

So in the event I do the online application I still have to physically mail a document or do I just have to fill out the information on the online form?

You need to mail in your CHL-100 - class completion form, your CHL-6 - signature form, your passport photos, and your barcode receipt from the online app.

And your copies of disposition of your case, if you determine that they exist.

Thanks a lot. That's exactly what I needed to know.
