Ever truely "made" someone?

Re: Ever truely "made" someone?
I can't beat these stories. Great. Everyone seems to own a fanny pack, myself included. So anytime I see one, I immediately think concealed gun. I was at a Carl's Jr. awhile back and there was a 'Wally Cox' type of character waiting for his food. Fanny pack was half his size and hanging low. I caught his eye and smiled and gave him one of those knowing nods, and he pretty much paled out. On another occasion I was working at the football stadium when one of the off duty cops walked in wearing his workout sweats and his leather fanny pack slung over his shoulder. I said something about not leaving home without is .40 caliber Glock and he just laughed. I have found that with some over sized jeans, my Sig P238 fits in a pocket holster and usually becomes invisible even if someone is looking.
Re: Ever truely "made" someone?
Once, taking tickets at the gate of an outdoor festival, I saw the print of a large gun butt "hiding" at his waistline underneath a non-tucked shirt. Asked what he was carrying -- learned he was a local LEO.
Another time, at a meeting of volunteers for a local charity, I saw a belt pouch in an upside-down position with some letters on it. It read "Kel Tec." Asked the wearer, and he laughed -- said it was the first time anyone noticed and perceived what the pouch was for.
And, before a religious service, I was talking to a local LEO on a second job for site security. I was telling how comfortable my new IWB holster was and how it concealed well. He said he noticed I was carrying -- but added that since he already knew, he looked hard.
A fun pastime, and a great way to meet others of similar mindset.

Re: Ever truely "made" someone?
I'm not sure I would actually call a stranger out on it unless they were showing and I wanted to let them know. Some folks might get awful embarrassed if you point out the gun on their hip. Gets you started off on the wrong foot I think. Maybe one day I'll ask that guy with the fanny pack at church if he's got a gun in there. The thing is that now I'm on sort of the leadership team and if word got around that I was packing at Church it might make some folks uncomfortable and then the Priest would have to let me know to not carry therefore giving me effective verbal notice. Really its better nobody at Church (other than my wife and close friend) know I carry.

I wouldn't "call him out", but I might give a friendly "hint" to the right person in the right situation. If I did I would be discrete.knotquiteawake wrote:I'm not sure I would actually call a stranger out on it unless they were showing and I wanted to let them know.

That old ranger didn't take your word for anything. Your involuntary nonverbal reactions told him everything he wanted to know.SRO1911 wrote:Made a couple, and been made
Was trying on some boots at luskys I get a tap on my shoulder, look over and its an older gentleman who discreetly asks me what brand of leather. Like a rookie I immediately look to 2:00 and see that in all my bending and pulling my shirt has come untucked and the top of my colt officer is there for all the world to see. I stuff a corner of my shirt back in the holster and thank the guy. He then shows me his ranger badge and says, I guess you have a license for that right? - yes sir, in my wallet. - Just want to make sure, now what brand of leather? I keep wanting one of those tuckin holsters but not sure which way I want to go.
I spent a few minutes singing the praises of milt sparks, gathered my new boots, slipped into the fitting room to re-adjust everything - and left. - - Worst feeling I have ever had while carrying, but the ranger was just as casual as could be. Didn't even hit me till later that he never actually looked at my license - just took my word I had it.
Best catch I have ever made was at tractor supply - saw a guy in a pair of white golf shorts and kept seeing a red dot on his pocket. Took a second to realize he had a laser of some kind on in his pocket. Once it clicked what I was looking at it was obvious he was pocket carrying a glock with some kind of laser sight. As I passed him I looked at his pocket and told him his batteries were going to run down. He turned white as a sheet and stammered a thanks.
If you hadn't had a license and told him you did, you can rest assured the conversation would have gone differently than it did when you told the truth.

About the best line I have heard of (and used a time or two) is: "You might want to know that your second amendment is showing."

I did use it, just a couple of weeks ago to my friend with the commander sized 1911 I mentioned in my previous post.

I was sitting in a chair at an auction once and another attendee walked past, directly in front of me, and I could very clearly see the imprint of a Beretta 92FS that was straining very hard against the thin leather (or maybe vinyl) of his "fanny pack". The pack was obviously undersized for its role. It must have been very difficult to have zipped the thing closed...

Re: Ever truely "made" someone?
One Sunday morning as I was walking out of the church restroom, I noticed one of our members had the grip of a revolver sticking out of his jeans. As I walked by I said "your butt is sticking out". He looked up and give me a funny look.
Later I approached him and explained that I had not meant to offend him, as I was trying to inform him that his pistol was showing. We both got a good laugh out of it.

Re: Ever truely "made" someone?
A couple of weeks ago at my neighborhood HEB there was a guy in his late 20's, early 30's checking out with his 2ish yr. old son in the basket. He was leaning into his basket and putting things on the conveyor belt.
I reached over and tapped him on the shoulder, and as he turned to me I said quietly "your 2nd amendment is showing, you should pull your shirt down" (I picked up that line on this forum as well). His large-ish semiauto was darn near fully exposed. He turned to me in a quiet voice and thanked me, saying something about he normally carries a Khar, (there you go TAM, another Khar fan) but this was a different pistol he was getting used to. We exchanged quiet pleasantries and he turned around again and thanked me as he left.
I hope if I ever have that issue that karma pays me back......
And....if you ever go to Fountain Firearms in Sugar Land on Hwy 6, there's a gentleman there that hangs out there, I see him almost every time I visit the store.....I believe he might be related to the owner, or perhaps a regular that simply hangs out ALOT......
Anyway, he wears a .45 on his waist (edited: or 1911 type pistol), and prints like nobody's business....I'm sure that's fine in a gun store, or out front on the bench, but I cannot imagine going out in public like that. I mean, it's O.V.E.R. the top....

It's a good thing it was a guy you said that to.ghentry wrote:One Sunday morning as I was walking out of the church restroom, I noticed one of our members had the grip of a revolver sticking out of his jeans. As I walked by I said "your butt is sticking out". He looked up and give me a funny look.

I look, however, I've never seen any obvious signs of concealed carry among my fellow citizens, aside from wardrobe and / or accessory selection. The firearms are indeed out there, but they are well concealed IMO.
