Say man do they pull your plastic for not telling them. In some places the changed the law that you get reprimanded. be nice if we had a Official chl body to talk to. :txflag:
You are still required by la to show your CHL if you are carrying, however there is no legal penalty for not doing so. If you are not carrying you do not have to display your CHL. However, some police officers do not properly understand the requirement and will chastise you for to showing even if not required to since not carrying. At that point, you are best to apologize, show the CHL and then once the situation is over, then you can contact the department and file a complaint.

I will not and do not show CHL if I am NOT carrying. The point to show it if you are carrying, so the officer knows you are armed or not regardless if he knows you have a CHL, showing a CHL to inform you are armed is safer than showing the pistol. This is the law, if the officer is untrained or preferred you show the CHL up front, do so as needed, apologize, then file a complaint, the dash cam is public record.

I know a good amount of LEO's and it worries me that they can rarely answer my questions about procedural differences between CHL and non-CHL. Read the law book, know it, practice your rights within reason (dont be an jerk if the cop disagrees with you, that usually NEVER works).

So I'm a Fire Fighter and i work with LEOs. so y'all bubbas tell me; Every time I talk to one around the station or hang out with them i have to Show them my CHL? I don't want some of them to even know. Nor my co Firefighters. Better they don't know cause some of them don't like the idea CHL holders. they like the world where they are the only one with powers. I know my x Gf would not care she still is around up there. IDK Just don't seam like a fair shake if we all hanging out eating and drinking (I know i cant drink and carry but they do :P off duty ). I meet officers all day on-duty and off i don't fell i need to give up my what i call my "ninja secrete" unless i am being detained.

To the best of my knowledge you only have to show it when you are carrying and only if the officer asked for ID.

If you are in a situation where they are allowed to demand you to identify yourself, then you must show your CHL with your state issued ID or DL when you are armed. The most common time this occurs for CHL's is pursuant to a traffic violation.

Note that they have to have reasonable suspicion that you committed a crime, are about to commit a crime, or you witnessed a crime to have the legal right to demand that you identify yourself.

Casual conversation around the fire station does not apply.

Well fellas we had a big ole City function with live music (I was the live music :hurry: )It was hosted by my city so all public servants was attending; thus my fire department was there our police department was there. I was carrying that day, So i went a head and found the police chief and showed him my CHL. Told him i was the FD and all that, i told him i was carrying in his jurisdiction and i would be responding to 911 calls carrying. His exact words was "You are close to home" You know i feel that ole boy had a gleam in his eye. I think he welcomed me just cause i had the CHl. a Lt. LEO saw me hand it to the chief and he ran to see the CHL. When he saw it backed up and looked uneasy. Like he was stunned. Right after that tone dropped we had a call. HE stopped me told me to "be careful out there Son". I just thought someone would know somehow i was caring at the event. After all im performing in ft of everyone. I felt alot better know the chief knows. the lts knows also. I have a good friend on the PD and i did not tell him. I since i told P.D. Chief i was sure that i should inform my F.D. Chief i was carrying. (you know they talk) Show. My fire chief thought it was cool he was like "your going to help a few of us get ours too". I was shocked .
so after the Fire call I was invited to a another family friends private get to gather. So i rode with my capt. I had to change form my performing clothing
to a fire Department uniform for the fire call earlier i had to change out side the capt. response SUV i responded with him. so i had to tell him cause he would see my weapon ,as i was changing. . He was like ok, so we went to his house for the-get- together later he wanted me to lock my weapon in the car. I looked at his glove box and there was no lock, so i told him there is a law i have to keep the weapon safe at all times and if any one gets it out of the car and gets hurt im lawful . he leaned over real serious Your not going to shoot any one are you. i told him, Capt Ive passed a back ground check and passed the the eye of the FBI and other forms of government I'm not going to shoot any one. I said also m im a honorably discharged marine and I you cant have any mental problems and it not easy to get a CHL. well, we get to my house to drop of my music equipment. we get in my room he goes well let me see it. yeha the gun!

No need to show CHL without a request for ID from an officer. That's probably all that needs to be said there.

As to the car, I wouldn't feel great about leaving a firearm unsecured in a vehicle either; however, a theft is a theft. If you leave your weapon concealed in your vehicle, and it gets stolen, that's a theft. You would not be held accountable for what was done with it after that. I had some firearms stolen from my house a number of years ago. They weren't locked in a safe as I didn't have one at the time. Does that mean I'm accountable for some idiot shooting somebody with them later on? Not a chance. If you take reasonable precautions and have your firearm in your vehicle, it being locked in a glove box or just placed under the seat doesn't make a difference. And a glove box, locked or not, doesn't really do much to stop an experienced thief from accessing its contents.

I'd be more concerned that you didn't heed a verbal request that you not take your weapon onto the man's property. Glad he changed his mind for you.

Well the thing was; I was not in my pov. I was in his. i would have liked it locked in his glove box but i was scared since it did not have a lock - his kids wold have found it. The kids play in the SUV and all that. Also sense it was a get together achole evolved, i did not want any one to know where it was hid of my person. We started playing foot foot ball. i was leaping and all that running- sprinting diving- my shirt keep flopping up. (weapon stayed in-place) great retention on the 7 dolor black hawk holder. have a badge on side my weapon holder.. i ended up changing clothing and hiding my weapon in a high place. Then at night i sleep with it in a backpack bag i used as pillow. I think i learned my lesson. next time i'm going to bring a lock box or trigger lock where ever i go. I was worried about the weapon alot. I gu
ess since i did not know who allwas oign to be at teh party i was on edge. After all we are deep in the country where the roads are gravel and grass is high.

Good call on keeping the gun with you, then. Didn't know the part about the kids playing in the car. A small nano-vault or lock box is a great idea if you're going to be someplace remote without your own vehicle where you might be asked to disarm.

This bubba will tell you have to follow the same laws as the people who pay your salary.
