How long can my wife use her Ky CHL...

So we are moving back to Texas. My wife has a Kentucky (CDWL) CHL. How long does she have before she will have to get a Texas CHL? Of course once we get home, a Texas CHL will be a priority on her list of things to do.

Kentucky is awesome and Louisville is a wonderful city. Handgun laws are really easy going. I like the fact that you don't have to worry about printing and open carrying is not an issue.
I love my Texas and wouldn't trade it for any other state!

As best I can tell, KY only issues a non-resident permit to military personnel that are stationed in KY. This means as soon as you change your legal residence from Kentucky to Texas, her license will be invalid. I would get the CHL course scheduled ASAP once you get here so you can get the paperwork under way and lessen the length of time she will be without.

One possible option would be if you come down ahead of the move, then she could take the class and apply for a non-resident Texas license. At the point you move to Texas you can contact DPS and apply for a change the address and the license will become a resident one. :thumbs2:

OP, Kentucky law gives you 30 days to report that your address has changed. When you do so, your license will be revoked (in KY, whenever you cease to satisfy the conditions for issuance or renewal of a license, it's immediately revoked).

Keith's suggestion is similar to how I did it when I moved here from Ohio. I got a Texas non-resident license first, and then after I established residency I simply updated my CHL with the Texas DL number and address. However, another option is to get a non-resident license now from AZ, FL, or PA. The AZ or FL non-resident licenses would be useful to have as a secondary license to her Texas license anyway.
