Lot of gun people tend to project about "bars" like anti gun poeple project about "guns".

Not to mention being the air-conditioning repairman there for a service call at 10:00 am, or the plumber, or the beer delivery driver? How about the cleaning crew that is leaving the place at 4:00 am? The waitress walking into the parking lot with a nights tips at 2:00 am?rm9792 wrote:Well there are a lot of reasons, some mentioned, to be in a bar but not drinking. There are a lot of people that have no intention of drinking but are forced to disarm.

That was one of the big surprises when I took the class last month. There are so many places I still won't be able to carry when my license comes. Even after the class and the background check and the RKBA tax.Jumping Frog wrote:There are a lot of people that have no intention of drinking but are forced to disarm.

I think you'll find CPZ's (criminal protection zones) affect your life far less than you think, unless you have a workplace that is still legally allowed to ban weapons n the parking lot.lou wrote:There are so many places I still won't be able to carry when my license comes.
In the last year, the only place I have been where I was legally barred from carrying was getting a car titled. It was in the same building as a courthouse, and some people would debate whether or not that applied -- I simply disarmed.

In my opinion, if a CHL saves a life or stops a crime in an otherwise legal manner, they should be immune from 30.06 or 51% violations.Kythas wrote:To be serious, I doubt any cop would arrest anyone who retrieved his weapon from his car to stop an active shooter, even if said shooter was in a bar.
If the person were arrested, I don't see a Grand Jury indicting.
If a Grand Jury did indict, I don't see a jury convicting.

I used to think that, but then Harris, Bexar, Dallas, and a whole slew of border counties went and voted for Obama in the last election. It can happen in Texas. But it's always better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. You do what you gotta do and you live with your decision. Carrying a gun changes your life...it isn't a decision that you take lightly. Sheepdogs don't play as much as Border Collies.srothstein wrote:Not in Texas, I just don't see it happening.

good points...steveincowtown wrote:snatchel wrote: To be honest, I have no problem with off-limit carry at 51% locations. Primarily because I don't frequent them. But secondly, I agree that guns and alcohol don't mix. Your argument is that you aren't drinking--I would ask why you were there then? There are too many other places you can visit that serve alcohol and are not 51% .. restaurants, etc.. There just isn't any reason to go to the bar.
I don't go to church every Sunday, so I don't see any reason that people should be able to carry there. I mean why can't people just read their Bible at home?
Haven't been to the park in the while, so I am ok with this being restricted as well. I mean why can't people just walk around there own yard?
I haven't been to the gym in awhile, I am fine with these being restricted as well. There are tons of other ways to work out. Heck, get a treadmill at your house and you can even open carry.
...just pointing out the the logic used is a little flawed here. I have no problem if someone chooses not to go to these places, just as long as they don't try to make my choices for me.

Re: NEW Texas CHL CATCH 22 BEWARE!
First off, I like the question. It's one of those thinkers that generates lots of discussion.
I'm not a LEO but I have LEO contacts everyday and yes I'm always carrying, some know that I carry and some don't, but spending many hours talking with LEO's gets you some insight into there world. What I have discovered is; waaaaaay to many of us (non-LEO's) answer questions that are never asked. We freely give up waaaaaay to much information. Much of which is ultimately used against us if they so choose. Now don't get me wrong. I am not knocking LEO's. The ones I know I like very much and the ones I don't know I respect very much. (yes, yes there are a few dill-holes out there but they are not the majority)
So in order to select the right option as you proposed them I would need to know how much info. you plan on giving up freely and how many questions, that weren't asked, do you intend on answering after the fact?
If this situation came to fruition and you retrieved your carry piece and subdued the bad guy. When the LEO's arrive what are you going to do/say?
Example 1
CHLer to LEO - Officer, I have subdued the BG his body is still inside. Now I know this is a bar and is properly posted as 51% venue and I know it is illegal for me to have my firearm in there but I'm a concealed carrier and oh by the way here is my CHL and DL and trust me I didn't have my gun with me while I watched my wife enjoy a few drinks but, oh ya I haven't been drinking, here smell anyway like I was saying I walked out of the bar after he came in of course,,, to grab my gun out of my car.... and I know what your gonna ask, why didn't I call 911, right? but I gotta say I was solely focused on getting my gun in my hand as fast as I could so I really didn't have time... but anyway I ran back in to the bar and shot the BG like I said... he's still in there on the floor.
LEO to CHL'er - can I get you to place your hands behind your back for "your safety and mine" (which is LEO code for you're going to jail by the way)
or
Example 2
CHL'er to LEO - Office I have subdued an armed assailant that threatened my wife and all these patrons with a large firearm. Here is my DL & CHL. for your safety and mine my firearm has been cleared and is now secured in the trunk of my car.
LEO to CHL'er - ................. wait here.
***the LEO responses are just how they play out in my head based on the information provided by the CHL'er and are strictly illustrative and meant for my amusement only ***
My point is; answer the questions that are asked and if there is a chance you could get burned don't add wood to the fire!
