I originally got my Texas vanity plates (patriotism in 6 letters, but I won't further specify what it is) from the state of Texas,
and I think I only pay $25 extra a year for it.

But now that the State of Texas has outsourced the vanity plates to a for-profit company, they have gotten very expensive.
I'm not really sure if you can still get the less expensive vanity plates directly from the State of Texas or if EVERYONE now has
to go to the more expensive private company.

From what I can tell, there is no ordering regular vanity plates. If you want to get a custom plate number, then you have to go through My Plates and choose a design, which for one year costs $199 -OR- go through the DMV and choose a college, organization, or sports team, pay $30 for that, and then $40 if if you want a custom plate number (total $70).

Now I understand why they made the new design for the standard plate so ugly.

$200 per year? $600 for 5 years? I'm sure that does not include your standard license fees.

Here's mine on my motorcycle:

Though I doubt too many drivers behind me have any clue as to what/who the 3 percenters are. Most probalby misread it as 3rd Precinct rather than 3%.
