May be a over reaction, but I would be concerned about PRIVACY....I see a "bright" HR person posting the "APPROVED" list of gun carriers[/size]... :rules:

On the outside, it looks like a good thing. Only you know the company you work for.

It's not unusual to see a pistol on the presidents desk or a rifle leaning In the corner of his office. He knows that I always carry, I showed him my CHL that day after it it came in and he was very congratulatory. I LOVE MY JOB!!! :clapping:

I would also jump at this in my company. However, policy change first and have it spelled out what is done with the copy and all data on that copy so that information can't be seen by just anyone.

The OP suggested a change in policy, and the company is willing to comply. They simply seem to be saying that if he intends to carry, they want proof he is one of the "licensed ones". I would not have any heartburn about it.

Not to rain on your parade but here is a possible negative. Copy of CHL's are in your personnel jacket. Company is sold to a Bloomberg type that thinks no one except the police and his private personal protective service should even own guns. All existing employees with CHL are advised their services are no longer needed.

Just my 2 cents worth.

:iagree:

My CHL is only ever to be seen by an officer with a badge. I don't let anyone know I carry besides immediate family.

Guess it depends on how much you like working for the company - I for one would not have told an employer that I have a CHL. Gives them too many excuses for termination in a right to work state.

your current manager is good with it, but that does not guarantee that all future supervisors (or company owners) will be of the same mindset. it will always be in your employee file.

The problem with this type of thinking is that there is always a scenario you can imagine, for any given situation, where it turns out bad for you. Just because there is some remote possibility the Michael Bloomberg, or his twin, will by a company...I mean, come on. That is like saying you should not carry concealed because you might get stopped by a cop who is going to glimpse your gun and then blow you away because he got nervous. Anything can happen, but not anything does happen.

Git-R-Done.

And if - in the unlikely event that the extreme "what-ifs" happen, the new management / ownership would probably publish their new anti-firearm policy before just firing everybody. If you're on record as an authorized CHL, they may specifically ask you to sign that you understand and will comply with the new policy.

They have your DL. They know your SSN. Tell them that this should be kept as private as those or any of your personal medical information, and give them a copy if it lets you protect yourself at work.

We always say our concealed carry firearms are medical devices. . . shouldn't HIPPA govern this? :biggrinjester:

Hmm. It is a life saving device. Interesting. I don't think it would work, but it could get interesting.

Cool thing about unemployment is if the company challenges it, then TWC requires them to disclose why you were terminated. I had a friend who went through this recently.
And they lie about why you were terminated.

if they lie, the TWC will always require written statements from both, then they compare. I have won a couple cases from employers lying.

yea i recently lost my job and they said all this stuff about me. at first twc denied me but i appealed and my company never called in for the hearing. Funny thing is the lady running it asked me if i ever saw these emails and had a chance to defend myself. I didnt even know about the emails and they just let me go. I got all my weeks i claimed and they had to pay. also they never appealed that ruling so too late for them. idiots.:)

Ive had enough experience with twc that they arent just all about protecting employers from paying out.
