Re: DPS Processing Times
Alrighty, here is how my second renewal went, now a non-resident TX permit. Next renewal will be no trip to Texas required.
04/09/11 Requal taken - El Paso TX, renewal fee paid online
04/11/11 Mailed CHL100 to TX DPS Priority Mail from Saint George UT
04/13/11 USPS shows delivery confirmation
05/11/11 Received status on DPS website
05/12/11 Fingerprints under review
05/13/11 Background check complete / Pending Manufacture
05/14/11 Manufacturing
05/17/11 Mailed
05/18/11 Postmarked leaving DPS
05/21/11 Delivered to Zip Code 84770
40 days mailbox to mailbox; OR 10 days from DPS actually opening sent CHL100
I wasn't too worried, I have a *now* resident Utah Permit, Expires 3Q 2012, and wasn't planning on going out of state anytime soon. I also made note to TX DPS that I now hold a Utah Driver License, as I had to send them a color copy, front and back of it, so low and behold, my newest TX CHL shows DL/ID of my old TX DL #. At least my address is correct! *sigh*
Lastly, I really dislike their contact method now, the 'contact form' page on their website, which undoubtedly a bot reads your message / inquiry and sends you generic canned responses it thinks best covers your inquiry. Uhhhg!!!

You have the concealed carry thing down pat....always get them looking at something else and they will never see your weapon.....the kid picking his nose kept my attention and wasn't until much later that I figured out you were showing us that your weapon didn't print. Good job

Re: DPS Processing Times
Hey CHLforum group. I found this forum while trying to determine the length of time required to receive the CHL plastic.
Current status:
Application 6-16-11
Fingerprints 6-21-11
Class 6-25-11
Material Received DPS 6-29-11
Background Completed 7-08-11 approx.
Sent to Manufacturing 7-11-11
Now just waiting. It doesnt' seem that my CHL process has taken anywhere close to what used to be the norm for processing. Having no record of any kind and knowing that the FBI already has my fingerprints and ss # from previous security clearances might have helped.

Easily, the article is actually the best topic on this registry related issue. I fit in with your conclusions and will eagerly look forward to your next updates. Just saying thanks will not just be sufficient, for the fantasti c lucidity in your writing. I will instantly grab your rss feed to stay informed of any updates.thankGod wrote:Charles, I will come back to give my input as soon as I have some. Packet was signed for by DPS on 2/5. Class - 6/18
On-Line App - 6/19
L-1 fingerprints - 7/5
As of 7/15, on-line status shows still awaiting fingerprints.

Called L-1 and they traced and show FPs sent to DPS/FBI on the 5th.
Responded same day ...
Called DPS ... give us a week and check back ...

Re: DPS Processing Times
I have been lurking in the shadows for a while now but this will be my first post.
I got my CHL pretty quick - 15 days calendar days from the day I mailed everything in to the day I recieved my license.
28 June: Submitted online application
01 July: Fingerprints by L1
02 July: Class at Texas Handgun Academy
05 July: Mailed paperwork to Austin
20 July: Recieved CHL in mail.
I don't know if I was just lucky or if they are just moving quicker down in Austin these days, either way I am glad I did not have to wait too long.

...I'm prayin' they're that fast with me...I dragged my butt as usual...maybe this time too long...mailed mine Monday and have till 21 August...then I walk a lot lighter if it's not back...did it to myself...din't leave room for errors and there were some...instructor said we could downline app to mail in...no...when the state mailed the app, there were affidavits to have notarized...I shoulda done the whole thing online, I guess...kickin' and screamin', they drag me into the 21st century...
Re: DPS Processing Times
Well, everything was going very fast until Manufacturing. Status shows manufacturing 7-11 and now it's been there for 14 days. I sent a question about time it takes at this point and they replied immediately that I would probably receive CHL in 7-10 more business days via mail. Maybe my license broke the laminator machine? Congrats to all those that received theirs in a really short time.

I also went to manufacturing on 7-11 - when I called yesterday they told me there was an equipment problem, but it has since been resolved and mine was mailed out yesterday. You're probably in the same batch with me. They told me the status web site should update very soon. I still show in manufacturing today.
