If they're not too busy arresting black kids for eating at the lunch counter.

The mall has a few attractions that seem to keep the rest of it running. . . a few of the anchor stores, the hockey rink, and the movie theater (which we quit going to due to its invalid posting and the opening of several closer theaters with no postings at all).

Store fronts in some stretches of the mall have definitely turned into revolving doors for failing businesses. It looks destined to follow the path forged by Prestonwood, Valley View, Six Flags, and North Hills malls. . . although it might take 15-20 years to fully reach obsolescence. The surrounding area will artificially prop up the mall a little longer than it would otherwise survive. It's only attraction was its size. . . and it opened right before the trend towards outdoor, open air, drive up shopping centers e.g. Southlake Town Center took off. It is valuable to mall walkers, but they won't help it economically.

Is there a way to get either the Tarrant County DA or the Texas AG to issue an opinion on this matter? TCDA would be the one to prosecute, so if they rendered an opinion that the signs were invalid, could GPD still arrest you knowing the DA is not going to prosecute?

If they weighed in on GVM specifically, the result would probably only be the posting of valid signs. . . which remove the sliver of hope of defense.

I would be interested to hear them speak about invalid-but-close signs. . . a word or two missing, slightly too small, lost in clutter, etc.

That's nonsense.

Last time I was at that mall I noticed at one the entrances the 30.06 wording, WRITTEN IN STONE. However, since it wasn't filled in it was technically all one color and not contrasting.

Just to be safe we left and went to a nicer mall.

That is old language, and not a valid posting. However! As you may read, time after time, on this forum...you may be able to beat the rap, but not the ride. If the cop who responds is mostly familiar with the code, then those words seem pretty close to right. I keep reading that you will be alright as long as you do not remain after being told you can not carry; however, you do not have to be verbally told if the signage is correct. In the case of the sign you are talking about, I think you could go on in and be safe until told to leave. The problem, once again, is that the responding LEO may not know that the sign is not correct, and therefore not valid. Maybe you could save a picture of a valid sign, or the link to the DPS website page with the correct wording.

Just don't know if it is worth it or not.

this is the same idea as the City of Houston not recognizing the MPA, they will do as they please untill there is a case that stops the abusive and lackadaisical(SP?) nature of the agancies involved. I really don't want to be the test case or how ever you would like to put it, but it is what it is. they want to do as they please and the laws are being intrepreted as they choose as opposed to what is written with any updated changes. same idea as philly pa when they refused to recognize the pa state law on CHL's, the governor has to issue a centure(sp?) against the city of Philidelphia before they would recognize the state law and stop arresting those that had a chl and charging them with felony UCW

The real problem in this case is that the Grapevine Police Department's official policy, per the Chief of the Grapevine PD, is that they will arrest you for trespass by a holder of a license to carry a concealed handgun on the basis of that signage if you are caught with a gun in that mall. Again, you may beat the rap, but you won't beat the ride per the department's official policy. The attitude of the corporation which led to the posting of the signs is based on ignorance of CHL. The police department's policy to enforce the signage is based on ignorance of the law. Ignorance has no place in my life; therefore, I don't go there. Because of that, I don't understand anybody's fascination with that mall.

How is it that "Ignorance of the law is no excuse" applies to citizens, but not the Police?

Something is just not quite right!
