I run the sound board in my church, and it is in an elevated loft. This is the perfect location to be able to see the entire sanctuary. My wife has asked me to not carry, but I am trying to work on her like water on a rock. I need the pastor to tell her he wants me to carry. At any rate, his son-in-law is also a CHL guy, and he does carry every Sunday, Wednesday, and so on.

Not sure if this one was meant for me (the OP) or the person who posted a couple entries ago, but...

My wife has the mentality that it is church and who needs to carry to church. Maybe a false sense of security that nobody would commit and atrocity in the Lord's house.

I, on the other hand, do not believe that somebody crazy really cares about that. Kind of like the false sense of security a 30.06 sign gives antis.

Same here. Though when she said God would protect the church, I responded how do you know God's not acting through me?

Not on an ego trip, just sayin.

When folks tell me that "the church is God's house and He can protect it..." I remind them that the world is His world too, so why carry there?

That was probably meant for me. She is not comfortable with me carrying at all, but is getting better. She had a gun held to her head, during a robbery, and it created a fear of guns rather than helping her to understand we have to prepare for evil.

When Dave Grossman talks about sheep, and people in denial that evil can cross their threshold, they could put a picture of my wife next to it. She thinks that thinking about what could happen, carrying while at home and while not at home, are sign of paranoia. She feels there are other measures that can be taken to ward off a threat (which there is, but pepper spray and close combat training do not always cut it). I printed out a copy of Dave's speech, which is in a different thread. I am going to highlight parts of it and have her read it. It says what I feel, only better than I could ever say it.

I am working on it. I do not plan to stop carrying, and may talk to my pastor about talking to her regarding carrying in church. She has the choice to accept I stand ready to protect my family, or not...it is up to her!

I don't go to chuch, but if I did I would carry there just like any other place. The only place I don't carry that I'm legally allowed to: my in-laws. They're died in the wool old hippies. Guns are not welcome in their home. I leave my gun in the car when I visit out of respect for their household.

Certainly don't mean to butt into your family matters, but does she have to know your carrying? We all have things we put in our pockets we don't ask our spouses about. IF it did end up that you had to use it, she would probably be thankful.

I am on a public forum and airing my issues, so feel free to butt in! ;-)

I may just gradually start carrying, once she gets more used to it. She ocassionally will come up and pat my hips to see if I have it on or not. I have told her she does not need to do that since chances are I will have it.

Some carry theirs in a Bible cover..... would she check that? A preacher I know glued all the pages to his Bible together, then cored it out with a razor.... keeps a Kimber 1911 in it! :fire

I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear who I was responding to was I, and yes it was Johnson....

I can certainly understand her fear, I suppose reinforcing your stance that the perp who attacked her used his gun for harm whereas you carry yours to protect yourself and her, might help?

as for those people who believe that carrying in a church is wrong or that "G-d will protect his church" well, all I can say is I lived in CO Springs during the shootings...I got the phone calls from family and friends "was that your church. I knew of the family, didn't know the family, but knew of them, they were homeschoolers, we're a small community. My doctor was right there and worked on the girls until the EMT's got there...there were very few people in that small city who weren't affected by that shooting.
But G-d did protect his church that day, with a young woman with a gun. We can't make Him do all the work. We're told in scripture to arm ourselves.

Very correct....even when God told the Jews to take the land, that He would fight for them, they still had to do the fighting with the belief that God would aid them and be on their side for victory...and that didn't always mean that they would not sometimes lose their life in the process. We are taught to pray for our daily bread too, but we understand we have to do our part to obtain it.

Indeed! Just had this discussion last weekend during a training class. I'm always shocked at the number of people (CHL'ers included) that think you can't legally carry in church.

That happen once while my wife was working as church secretary out in Longview. Two ladies showed up, walked in (door was always unlocked after she or reverend arrived during the week), and asked for some assistance paying bills and buying food. My wife told them that there was no petty cash and she couldn't write a check without the rev or an elder's approval. They then started asking for any money she had in her purse or a personal check from her. She didn't have cash and said she wouldn't write a check. They then asked her for a ride back downtown as they had hitched out to our church. My wife, bless her heart - took them back into Longview where they were let out in front of the Walmart. When she told me what had transpired (and after I had calmed down considerably over her letting these two in a car with her), we resolved that she was going to start carrying while on the job in the church AND the door was absolutely going to stay locked from then on unless other folks were there. BIG eye opening experience that one. I didn't know whether to be angry at my wife for being so naive or just grateful God was watching on that day.

I'm new to this forum and have been looking for an answer to this question for awhile. I even asked the local DA and he could not give me the answer. Do you need permission from the church to carry concealed? I am in West Texas.
