While all of us are trained to start shooting COM, I daresay that many of the regulars here, had they found themselves cornered at 10 yard or less, could have ended the North Hollywood shootout several thousand rounds early. Body armor wouldn't have been a factor.

I read it, and as mentioned by others, I got tired of seeing the phrase "legal defensive pistol." I guess I've been around long enough that the whole article just seems like one big cliche. That's not saying there is no valid information therein, but I don't agree with all the opinions and suggestions made by the author.

He lost some credibilty with me on the North Hollywood thing too. In general, it's not your job to try to stop such an incident. Now if Freddy Felon and Johnny Joker are a direct threat to you and your ability to go home in one piece, all bets are off.

This guy has a very bad writing style. He just is all over the place. I like the airsoft idea but where do you train with it force on force.

On his idea that revolver aren't worth anything, I would just say carrying a gun in and of itself is worth a lot. According to multiple studies, guns are used in defense 1-2.5 million times a year. And yet according to the FBI stats, there are only about 200 justifiable homocides a year by private citizens. That suggests that just showing a gun stops the majority of criminals in their tracks. There are also studies that indicate that looking at five or six bullets in a cylinder is very disturbing to BGs. If so, in the vast majority of cases a revolver may be the best gun to have. I carry either a revolver or semi-auto and feel better with either one than neither.

Most of his other ideas are things that I have read in multiple sources from Fairbairn and Sykes to Cooper to Ayoob to Suarez etc. And they are much better explained in those sources.

However, I am 52, have never been in a real fight, live and work in very safe areas, do not frequent bars, strip joints or areas of town that are dangerous (unless you consider church dangerous), don't have any enemies that I am aware of and often wonder why I carry a gun whenever I can. I guess maybe that if I add just one more to the number of people carrying with CHLs, maybe it will deter some BG somewhere which I think was the ultimate point of this piece.

Well thanks all for your responces. I agree, it wasn't the easiest piece in the world to read. I too got tired of reading the "legal defensive whatever".

I thought it had some very informative info for us newbies who are otherwise lost in all the can and can't do's while holding a CHL. I would like to be able to afford time off work and money to take some of the courses available, but, alas, I'll just have to remain a student from the school of hard knocks.

I hear that some excellent airsoft force on force training is done at the Top Gun Range in Houston. I am sure some other folks (GC Montgomery) will be along to tell you more about it. I tried to read it and I just lost interest. Too many "legal defensive" phrases thrown in there and other stupid stuff. I'm sure there's some good information, but it's poorly written and that makes it too much of a chore to read.

I'll take another look at it when I get home, but it looked to be a bit preachy instead of, "why don't you try this method, and see if it works for you"...
