Is San Antonio friendlier?

#1

Post by Embalmo »

Guys,

I spend a significant amount in San Antonio and visited several shops and restaurants for the first time since I obtained my CHL and I couldn't/didn't see any anti-gun signs anywhere. I parked next to and did the overpriced Ripley's and Wax Museum and, wait, where did I go that was across the street? Oh yea, I remember, The Alamo. :biggrinjester: I was a little annoyed that the basement was closed due to renovations.

Anyway, I walked into, or at least poked my nose into every establishment around the Riverwalk and Alamo and failed to see any anti-gun signs anywhere. Is San Antonio just a "friendlier to CHL" than Austin type city? You can't swing a dead cat in Austin without hitting a gunbuster sign.

Just returned from spending a week in SA. Other than some legit 51% signs, I did not spot a 30.06 or gunbuster sign (and I was looking).

The local knife restrictions are a different story ;-)

On the other hand, I travel to San Antonio regularly for work, and that is the main reason
I got my CHL. I know there are nice areas of San Antonio, but I'm not very comfortable in
the areas where our offices are.

Nothing to do with businesses posting or not posting 30.06 - mostly the medical center
area itself.

I've been going to the Alamo for about 30 years and that basement has been closed for one reason or another every time I've been there.

Other than some office buildings and factories (which aren't open to the general public anyway) the only places I'm aware of with valid signage are a couple of theaters, med centers, and jewelry stores. Not so bad, really.

(The Alamo has a basement? Where's the entrance?)

SA is gun friendly as most REP style Texas town, which Austin is not. Also I am really sure like 98% it’s illegal to carry inside the Alamo. I do believe that have a large sign right out front. I might be wrong, I have not been there in an a few months.:txflag:

100% LEGAL to carry in the Alamo. I have done it multiple times.

I have seen some odd signs (I think they are the pre-30.06 signs) in regards to carry around SA but I cannot say that I have seen too many legit 30.06 signs. The regal (I am pretty sure thats which ones) cinemas and Jareds has them but then again Jareds is also posted 51% :banghead:

As for the basement in the Alamo...I am still trying to get my bicycle out from there. :biggrinjester:

Oh and just to clarify...SA may be CHL friendly but by NO means is it friendly.

I'm curious: have you found places in the state that are particularly anti-gun? I've traveled in the DFW, Austin, San Antonio, Rio Grande Valley, Corpus Christi, and West Texas areas of the state and I've seen only two 30.06 signs --both at a location I have to travel to for work. I've seen a few other "no guns" signs, one in Marfa, and the rest at AEP local offices --but none at any place I have even the slightest desire to enter. In fact, anyone who posts any kind of anti-gun sign isn't going to get my business, whether it's a valid 30.06 sign or not.

I'm 100% sure you're right about him being wrong :-)

I was at the Alamo a couple of months ago and could find no evidence of valid 30.06 signs, nor did I find anything on the net when I looked into it before the trip.

Good thing "gunbuster" signs don't mean a thing to CHL's :rules: . Though, I'm SURE they prevent criminals from carrying onto the premesis, you know because it's not allowed and all
