Do you carry with a round loaded in the Chamber?

I noticed that some posters still question whether or not they should carry a round in the chamber. I felt that it would be interesting to see what the actual general consensus is regarding the issue.

Yes, Always....

I feel that in a life or death situation the last thing I want worry about is trying to draw my pistol and rack the slide to get a round in. From the stories I read, it doesn't happen the way you see in movies. No pointing the pistol at the attacker, talking to them for a little bit, then racking the slide to load the pistol so that they know your'e serious and will shoot.

Bottom line, When speed is important, I won't waste time loading my pistol.

If you don't carry with one in the chamber cocked & locked, what is the point of carrying. Better just throw the gun at them.

As others have, and more will so.. I'll post the obvious. I have a tool box full of hammers.. I leave them at home. I carry a concealed weapon when ever legal, and at those times my weapon is loaded and ready for use...otherwise it's just a really useless hammer.

Yep, #1.

It's a training/safety issue.

Absolutely! You will be dead before you get your round chambered.

On that note, who carries with their safety on? I see it like dove hunting. I've been out before where I let the first one of the day go because I forget to take off the safety on the shotgun. You wouldn't want to pull your gun, pull the trigger, and realize the safety's on. (I realize most carry weapons aren't included for this question, but I know there are a few with safety mechanisms beyond the trigger and grip safety.)

What is a "safety"?

I own Glocks, an XD and a MDE. The only safety that I am aware of is the trigger.

Both my carry guns are more comfortably carried with the safety on. Both SA triggers and far too light and short to be trusted by themselves.

I know I can train to put my seat belt on really fast, but I wouldn't bet my life on my ability to put it on the split second before an accident.

So yes, one in the chamber.
