I used my CHL to buy a beer at a Dallas Stars game (so obviously, I wasn't carrying). My DL was expired and they wouldn't accept the paper temporary one. I showed him the CHL and he didn't know what to do, so he called over a supervisor. The supervisor laughed and poured my beer.

I had to apply for a TWIC card.(Transportation Worker Identification Credential) The lady behind the counter asked for two government issued forms of ID. I gave her my DL and CHL. She gives me back my CHL and said that wasn't an approved form of ID. I needed my passport or my SSC as my second form of ID. I asked how can it not be a valid issued ID? It's not on our list was her response but if you happen to have an imate ID card, that is an acceptable form of ID . I show her my SSC while I rant about how it says on the card not to be used as an ID, blah blah. Sorry sir, I have to abide by the rules set forth by the Dept. of Homeland Security.

On a similar note, I had the closing agent at our mortgage closing try to tell me that my Wife's Green card was not valid Government Issued identification...elwood blooz wrote:I had to apply for a TWIC card.(Transportation Worker Identification Credential) The lady behind the counter asked for two government issued forms of ID. I told her to check again... Call anyone she needed to, because it doesn't get more Valid a Government Form of identification than that!
She left the room with it, came back 5 minutes later, and then decided to accept it XD

I found this conversation interesting since I just tried to use my TX CHL for a second ID at Bank of America and was told that it wasn't a valid form of ID. I was having a POA notarization done and also opening up an account to manage my mother’s money. I needed two forms of ID to do this. I was about to argue that the CHL was a valid form of ID but decided 'forget it". It wasn't worth the time as I was there with my mother who is starting in the first stages of Alzheimer’s. Since I had been out on business that morning and TSA requires me to use my passport for flying, I was loaded with other ID. I tossed down my passport, TWIC card and three forms of photo ID and told her to pick one. She replied that a credit card would be good enough.
I don't get this, a credit card with has no photo on it is valid ID according to BOA, but a Texas CHL is not??? I guess as an engineer I make the mistake of trying to apply logic and reason and I forget that that most people in banks are bureaucrats!

You are right about banks making up their own rules. What makes it even more frustrating is that it's your money.whodat1 wrote:I found this conversation interesting since I just tried to use my TX CHL for a second ID at Bank of America and was told that it wasn't a valid form of ID. I work at a car dealership in Grapevine and had a customer that we needed two forms of ID and he used his CHL no problem. I also had a customer get outed on a test drive, as he was pulled over for speeding and had to produce both ID's. No tkt by the way just a warning

Re: Amusing - CHL for I.D.
After a trip to the bank for some cash I forgot my DL there, left it in the little drive through tube. During my grocery store trip later that evening I was carded for some Beer and when I went for my DL its not there, so out came the CHL. The lady just got a puzzled look and told me that she needed a DL. After asking why a CHL was not good enough for a few minutes she just looked disgusted and snidely said "well I'll just call the manager and see what he says". So another few minutes go by and the Manager shows up and askes what the problem is, she is just snotty as ever telling him how I handed her some gun license and how I don't have a DL. He just apologizes to me, Checks my D.O.B. on CHL(this was pointless since in order to get a CHL you must be 21), nicely informs this lady on how the CHL is a valid I.D., briefly explains to what a CHL is and how much more is invlolved with getting a CHL vs. a D.L.. So then she says "ohhh this is a license so you can own a gun?" the Manager and I both just look at each other and chuckle then he explains that this allows a person to carry a concealed handgun. Then the all time greatest sheeple question came out " so you don't have to have a license to own a gun?" a brief explanation of the Second Amendment and requirements to own a gun ensued. Then a few seconds of silence I see another light go off and another puzzled look quickly followed by another question " so this means you have a gun with you?" as a bonus I also briefly informed her of the Fifth Amendment and the fact that I have to tell no one except LEO as to the status of carrying. She was just as dumbfounded as earlier. All in all it was a great learning experience for one non-informed sheeple grocery clerk.

Went to post office today and had to use my chl as Id to verify my address and the lady gave me no problems I obviously wasn't carrying. I like to obey the laws considering I was wearing bball shorts and a slim t shirt and was with my 6 year old son I don't think they questioned if I was carrying.

They shouldn't question it, by definition you are one of a class of the most law abiding citizens and, for now at least, it is against the law.
