Texas gov. shoots, kills 'wily' coyote during jog
http://www.statesman.com/news/texas/tex ... 33161.html
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Gov. Rick Perry has a message for wily coyotes out there: Don't mess with my dog.
Perry says he needed just one shot from his laser-sighted pistol to take down a coyote that was menacing his dog during an early morning jog in an undeveloped area near Austin.
Perry told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he sometimes carries his pistol, loaded with hollow-point bullets, when he jogs on trails because he's scared of snakes. He'd also seen coyotes in that area.
When the coyote came out of the brush toward his daughter's Labrador retriever puppy on a February jog, he charged it and shot it with his .380 Ruger pistol.
Perry's warning: "Don't attack my dog or you might get shot ... if you're a coyote."

That is awesome. Especially since Gov. Perry isn't one of those politicians who thinks only the "special people" should be allowed to carry.

Good for Perry. Of course, I have to wonder if he "only" carries his .380 to shoot coyotes and snakes. What would he do if a "human snake" tried to mug him? Say "I'm the governor, leave me alone?"
Also, does Perry not get some armed guards that jog with him like POTUS does?

I wonder if his Ruger has Pearl grips or engraving.
Wow. Just think some of us own "The Govner's Gun!"
PS. A Coyote put down by a little 'ol .380? Poor critter must have had a heart condition or something!

If I was a jogger, I guess I'd rather run with a Governor that takes care of his own problems.

Always wondered what Rick carried.
A Ruger .380 would not have been on my short list of guesses.
I would have guessed he'd be a 1911 guy.
Maybe a Les Baer with Lone Star grips.
Heck, Kay Bailey Hutchison carries a .357 revolver. You go, girl.
Ms. Medina carries an XD, 9MM IIRC. She's got a good gun,
now she needs to get a CHL to go with it.

I'm surprised that it took so long for this to make the news.

Two thumbs up for the governor! I live not too far away and we have the same problem. I have a 120 lb puppy that can handle himself with the critters so far. Good to hear. I carry my LCP on walks, too.

Well at least the Governor's lil .380 is better than Texas CHL Godfather (and Land Commissioner) Jerry Patterson's .22 Mag single-action revolver .... though neither is exactly living up to the "Everything's bigger in Texas" mantra.

I suspect the .380 is just for jogging; bigger gun for everything else.surprise_i'm_armed wrote:Always wondered what Rick carried.

I am guessing your kidding around, but just in case your not I thought I might throw something in here. Most domesticated dogs would not stand a chance of surviving an all out attack by a coyote. They are just far too vicious in their methods of fighting for our lovable pets to be a fair match.
