San Antonio CHL Shooting

Post by One Shot »

FYI, didn't see this posted elsewhere.
Express-News (Website)
A licensed concealed handgun carrier fired several shots in the parking lot of a downtown hotel Sunday morning, when he came outside as a woman was stealing his truck, authorities said.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, told police he heard the sound of his red Ford F350 pickup's ignition starting around 10:30 a.m. and walked outside his hotel room at the Motel 6 in the 200 block of North Pecos La Trinidad, said Sgt. Devon Lambert with the San Antonio Police Department.

A woman had broken the truck's steering column and was backing up when the man approached her, holding a small-caliber handgun, and told her to get out of the truck, authorities said. She got out of the truck and into the passenger seat of a white pickup, where police said at least two men were waiting.

The driver of the white truck then drove it toward the man, who fired several shots while in fear for his life, Lambert said.

“He felt threatened; it was pulling out toward him,” he said.
The gunshots hit the white truck's passenger window, but police weren't sure if any of the three people inside were injured. Police are still looking for two men and a woman described as 5 feet tall and about 100 pounds.

The shooter isn't expected to face charges, Lambert said.

Based purely on what I read above, it sounds perfectly justified to me.

:iagree: The white pickup was being aimed straight for him, trying to run him down.

He was not in his truck. The perp was in his truck. He came out to discover her stealing it...she ran and the other perps in the getaway car tried to run him over. I would have done the same exact thing...

I wonder how he hit the passenger window if the truck was coming right at him?

Easy; You dodge left while still shooting as the truck is passing by you, or, the truck veers to the left while you are shooting and exposes the passenger side to you.

Which makes me wonder...at what point must you disengage from the situation? At that point where you are facing perpendicular to the front of the car, facing the passenger side window, do you have to cease firing?

You do not quit firing until the threat no longer exists. They could still have swerved back at him or threw it in reverse once passing and come back. IMO, once they made the move to try and run you down, you empty the gun on them.

I just bet the perps had to visit a laundromat soon after.

At the end of the day, a citizen was able to stop criminals from stealing his property because he was armed; At least three crooks are out there second-guessing whether their next victim will be likewise armed and alert.

Turned out pretty good in my book.

Under TX CHL statues, he could have shot her while she was in his truck, and walked away clear...

I found this hard to believe: a woman stealing an F-350?

Shouldn't she be stealing a girly car like a new Beetle, or a Smart car? :-)

I don't think so. It occurred at 10:30 a.m., and was just a theft. Your only justification woul dhave been that she was in possession of property and it could not reasonable be recovered any other way. Since she took off running when she saw the gun, the "recovery" occurred without deadly force, so it was not justified that way.
