licensed gun owners association of texas Invoice???

#1

Post by RetiredE9 »

I searched this subject but couldn't find any other pertinent comments.

Has anyone else received an invoice from the "licensed gun owners association of texas"?? I remember receiving one last year and threw it away and today I got one asking for last year's and this year's dues!! I assume it's a scam or something similar to those fake "invoices" I still get to "register" my fax machine with some data base.

Maybe I'm wrong and this is a legitimate request?? I'm still not joining/paying but was curious if anyone else has a viewpoint.

Licensed Gun Owners Association Of Texas, Inc Business InformationClaim This ProfileLicensed Gun Owners Association Of Texas, Inc is a private company categorized under Membership Organizations, Nec and located in Athens, TX. Current estimates show this company has an annual revenue of $52,000 and employs a staff of approximately 2.

Smells like a scam to me. I get a similar bill from a type of yellow pages about twice a year. In tiny little print.... it states it's not the "real" Yellow Pages, even though it looks like a legit invoice for a Yellow Pages ad.....it's not. Legal? yea. Shady? Like an oak tree.
2 employees and $52,000 yr? Ah, I advise you to send it through the shredder.

I wouldn't shred it just yet!

I'd call the Texas Attorney General and let them know you are being scammed. Then the BBB to be sure. I'm sure DPS would like to hear from you as well. Postmaster General, or U.S. Postal Inspectors?

I've never heard of these people(but that's not saying much at this point). Are you a CHL holder? If you are, how did they get your name? It certainly didn't come from DPS!

If I ever got one of those, that's what I'd be doing, you'd better believe it. :thumbs2:

As a follow up, I did a google advanced search and came up with:

Hmmmm, I have CHL insurance from CHLProtection plan. I just checked the address and they're the same "Rick Mackey, C.E.O. & President
CHL Protection Plan
11700 Preston Rd, Suite 660-531
Dallas, Texas 75230"

Is the same address as the "License Gun Owners Association of Texas Inc"

Does that mean their insurance is a scam??

As mentioned above, if this came through the Mail you can take it to the USPS Inspector General office and they can pursue it.

Ruh roh. Both CHLProtection plan, and LICENSED GUN OWNERS ASSOCIATION OF TEXAS, INC. have the same business address, and principle names.

It could be that the Licensed Gun Owners Association of Texas, Inc is offering the CHL Protection Plan, but it sure smells fishy to me......as in scam.

RetiredE9, As insurance is involved, the Texas Department of Insurance will want to know about this as well. It could very well be an insurance scam.

I'd recommend calling their Fraud Unit and just visiting them about your CHL policy:

There's an outside chance that what you have MAY be legitimate, but it sure is suspicious to me.

The over-riding question still remains...Where did they get the names on their mailing list??
Nov. 2010...Check!
Nov. 2012...Don't Give Up!
Jan. 2013...True Change!

CHL Protection Plan, called CHLPP, has a website:

http://www.chlpp.com/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And it lists all the people named as principles named above. I don't know what to think now. They list TSRA and TCHA as "partners". From their website: " Rick Mackey elected President of Texas Concealed Handgun Association (TCHA)"

Calling TSRA might throw some light on the subject. It's an interesting website is you want to check it out.

A scam it might not be. Whether it's a good way to spend your money....that's a different story.
