The Denton Air Show is this coming Saturday, June 20th. The Denton Record Chronicle and the air show web site state "no firearms". I have sent a letter to the editor of the paper which will be printed Tuesday. I have also sent email to the firm putting on the air show and ask them why they are prohibiting law-abiding CHL holders from attending the show. In that same email I asked them for the authority they are citing to prohibit firearms.
Oh, by the way, they are serving alcoholic beverages at the air show. No moral problem there but a lot more people are killed on the highway by irresponsible drivers after they drink than CHL holders at air shows.
Question: I don't believe the airport is private property. Do they have the authority to install metal detectors and prevent firearms at the air show?
Thanks, Quinn

Re: Denton Air Show
I spoke with an official of the air show later today and she made a mistake when she spoke to the newspaper. She meant to say "no weapons". They are discouraging knives, etc. but are not infringing on the CHL rights. It never hurts to check but I believe all is well.
Thanks, Quinn

You might be careful carrying at airshows because most of the 1's I have attended have you entering an area that would normally be considered a secure zone plus the city may own the property but federal laws apply. You will most likely be ok but there are some gray areas that would discourage me personally.
It is easier to get an airport security clearance than a CHL

Re: Denton Air Show
This is incorrect.
Most muni airports are NOT secure areas.
In fact, you should be able to go to the General Avaition area of DFW and get on a Piper Warrior and carry. (I have not done this in DFW or DAL, but you should be able to.)
You can legally carry on a general aviation aircraft as long as the PIC (Pilot in command) says it's ok.
I've done it before, and will do it again, God willing
In fact, I was in Denton that saturday with a coworker, getting a ride in his plane before the airshow...

My mistake I work for an airline and sometimes get stuck in that mentality but as a private pilot I should know better
